Utah!

Red that ameraucana is very pretty! I'd take her if I didn't have so many chickens already

Thanks! I know how it is to have too many as is, haha.

That is cute! Made me smile this morning.

Where do you live? Redlll

I'm in West Valley.

So, our fridge finally gave up the ghost in the wee hours of the morning. Guess who gets to go and fetch ice so that we can stuff our perishables into coolers? Ohhhh, boy

I'm watching the Worst Molt thread, and some people there are discussing stuff about chicken sweaters. Makes me go hmmmmm, I may just have to try my hand at one of these. I have a little hen who hates cold weather, and she'd love a little extra warmth......

I saw a woman who knitted her chicken a sweater, and the chicken really hated it. I also wonder if it'd snag on the pinfeathers and be painful?

Desert, I am DYING over that video. Hilarious!!!

Red, I adore that ameraucana. She is so beautiful! I have a lavender ameraucana and she has always been very small and not terribly fluffy. Pretty decent layer, and such a pretty color though. I don't have an ameracauna rooster though, so if took her, her babies would either be olive eggers (with the fbcm) or a blue hybrid with the legbar rooster. I'm pretty sure that's not what you intended on your breeder though.

Lisa, I'm SHOCKED that those babies are offspring of a fbcm. I've never had a FBCM have offspring other than a dark gray or black. Even my 1/4 FBCM are dark. I can't wait to see how those grow out.

So, new cow adventure. My stupid (well, maybe not SO stupid) smaller cow, TBone, has decided he doesn't like our pasture anymore (again). I was on my way to list a property (super cute 1/2 acre property that can have roosters in Syracuse for 180k if any of you want it) when I got a call from my neighbor that Tbone was under my pear tree, pigging out. Great. So I delay the appointment, run home, and get him back in the field, which was a bit of trick considering I have to go through a neighbor's pasture with their llamas to get to the opening to our pasture. Yesterday, I go out and see him in the neighbor's field. Awesome. Got him back. This morning, I check on him, and he's back in their field AGAIN!! I chase him back, and find a spot where he's pushed under. So, I got a pallet and stuck it there til DH gets home from Germany and can help me re-string the section of barb wire that had come loose. I go back out 30 min later, and watch him push under the fence in a new place.

When they get that big, it requires a certain amount of cooperation to keep them in the field. I asked my neighbor if I could borrow a couple of dog panels to put in that spot until we can drive a couple more t-posts in the strengthen the fence. I was on his side of the pasture wiring them into place, and the llamas were sooooooo interested in helping me. My friend was giving me moral support and snapped a couple pictures that I thought I'd share. Ever gotten a wet willy from a llama? I have.

No kidding! That paint roo has some seriously strong genes. The NN mom is orange. I have NEVER had an orange baby. about 90 percent of her babies are paints, the few others solid black...and from the FBCM/Cuckoo mix Mom all babies but 1 have been paints. (24 paints in all and one black counting all the ones I have sold or given away!!) Very unexpected for sure. Just wondering if the chicks will grow up to lay brown? That would be an amazing bonus.

Your supervising llama is adorable! Too bad the cows are being naughty while the DH is not here to help. If you need any help, holler!

Red--your blue is gorgeous!

Sphinx, your cow story made me laugh and I had to share it with my mom. I know that stuff isn't as funny when you're in the moment working on it, but it was fun to read about. We have had our share of escapee animals that need to be retrieved again and again, believe me. I feel fortunate that most of mine are avian, though. If you really want the Ameraucana for hybrids and no one else speaks for her soon, you are welcome to her. I would love to know that she's going to a good home.

I am toying with the idea of re-homing my Delaware, too. I love seeing her big white shape out back, but I don't need this many chickens over the winter. Want, yes. Need, no. So if anyone wants her, my only condition is that her BSL buddy comes with her. Neither has started laying yet, but are getting close. I may keep them just until they start to lay. I don't know yet. In all fairness, the BSL was the one that had a bad lice problem a few weeks ago. She got royally slathered in oil to kill the critters, and when I checked her the other day, she is doing MUCH better. I'm going to oil her again to be sure they're gone, but I just want to put that out in fair warning.

If anyone is interested in other birds I have in my flock and would like to know if they're available, speak now.

Lovr it. There is a collar you can put on cows to keep them in the pasture it looks kind of like a wishbone with a cross peice. it pokes down so they can't gp indr fence

Oh my goodness, I just had the best hatch I've had in a long time. Got 12 SLW eggs, 10 started, stayed viable until lock down, and now..I have 10 little SLW babies. This group is so pretty. I am hoping that the lighter color doesn't mean boy..because there are some real pretty silvers, the others are more dark with the chip munk silver stripes. I am keeping a Golden from my last hatch, and now have to decide which two I want to keep to watch..man, I better keep a girl! The rest are sold to Tell's cousin!

So since it was frozen with a dust of snow at my house this morning. I need to get prepared for winter. What is the best way to keep the water from not freezing, I have bucket water with nipples, but I can get a metal fountain if needed to put on the heating base. And do they just do fine on their own in the coop with the cold or do I need to put something special in there to keep it warmer?
