I had a bad evening yesterday, Despite my efforts the hawk got one of my chicks. I went outside just in time to see him fly off with it. I had them locked up but the chick went thru the wire. Any ideas how to get rid of a hawk. My concern is that now hes got one he will be back to pick them off one by one.

Oh my goodness! So sorry. Sad thing is, that those birds are protected. You can call the Fish and Game, to see if they can catch it. Trap it. :/

I actually harass the one here when he gets too close with whatever I have on hand. I'm not above throwing branches at him to get him to move. If you have a powerful spray nozzle on the hose, you might also try that. You could put a chicken wire skirt along the bottom of the run to keep the chicks from slipping out. I had to do that with our fence on one side to keep the chicks in our yard.

Hey everyone, be safe and have a fun Halloween! It's time for me to man the door and hand out candy. Oh, how I miss the days of trick-or-treating.

DWR told me the bird is federally protected and can't be re;ocated. I relocated the chicks to the smaller coop with a large covered run along with the seramas. Tomorrow I am going to go get a dog that is trained to protect the chickens and the little dogs. DWR told me that they have had a lot of complaints about small dogs and cats being taken by coopers, Since two of our dogs are smaller than the chickens they are in danger. Ed was waiting tonight to harass it bad but it didn't come by tonight that we saw. I am so stressed that my asthma is acting up. hope I don't end up in the Er tonight. I guess I just did to much today. I have enjoyed the kids trick or treating. I am wearing a hot pink wig and the kids love it. Of course they all have ti pet the dogs.

Wow, knew they were protected..but didn't know they couldn't relocate. When my friend up the street lost one last year, they came by to try and trap it. With no success of course..they were going to try and relocate it, but said, can't make any promises it won't end up back this way. :/

Check out my Seramas, they are changing pretty fast, In this group, I got three frizzles, and 4 that weren't.

This little black one is a frizzle, but not as much as the other two.

Not chicken related but anyone want this sweet male kitten?

I have worked a lot on getting him socialized with other cats and dogs and my ferrets and it was a success. So he will make a great pet, just don't want him going to the pound. Found him as feral and you would never have known.
