Utah!

Sundancen, that food poisoning sounds awful. Any idea where you picked it up? I'm not surprised you got it worse than Ed. Glad you are feeling better now. It's been unseasonably warm here. I'm guessing that right about the time all of the flowers and trees blossom up, we'll have one more cold snap and it'll kill everything.

It occurred to me last night that my new layer could be my silkie.

Yay! Wendy on your Silkie laying, she was much faster then my girls. So I think might be laying as well as the JB and possibly the Cochin Mix Bantam. I've been getting 2 small eggs a day for the last 3 days straight, and one is a white and the other is a light creamy tan color like the Silkie eggs I just hatches, so there for sure is a Silkie and then one of the others. Now with my luck they will go Broody.

Lisa I wish you were closer, I would take your 3 chicks you have left, I so want a blue egg layer this year. Are the eggs from your flock? Maybe I should just buy some eggs from you and hatch some out. I also want an olive egger. Maybe we can figure out an egg train, and I can buy some eggs from you and Wendy at the same time, I think she does Olive Eggers. I can't set them till after March 10th, I'm going to Vegas with Girl Scouts, and I know there is no way my husband will turn eggs. HeHe. I was thinking of looking up when Easter was anyways and maybe buying some eggs for an Easter Hatch just for fun.

Red I have to tell you that your chicks are turning out AWESOME! I'm praying at least 2 of the 3 are girls. The one is coming in with deep copper on her upper wing feathers. I so can't wait to see her feather out. I need to take some 1 week photos to share. And I'm starting to wonder if my Chocolate Silkie is a Roo, it has doubled in size within the first week of life, and is almost to the same size as the LF. The rest of the Silkies are still tiny. And the White Chipmunk is starting to get in white feathers with the hint of black on them, so I have no idea what that one is going to look like.

Silly--the SBEL eggs are from Birdguy. I have no roosters right now. Looking for a blue silkie roo, and hoping to get a FBCM roo. Hoping. ;)

I could get eggs from Birdguy for you when I go to Idaho next if you like. They are $18/dozen I think.

Sweet. Let me know when your going to go, I might need to plan on it so I can drive all the way up to you to get them. I wonder if it would be cheaper to try to ship them, your like 3 hours away, so that is 6 hours round trip for me. And I have a gas hog Yukon. Hmmmm... Plus it would have to be after the 10th, because I will be out of town for 3 days.

I know that the guy who I got the Silkies eggs from when I was talking with him, he said that he was planning on getting heritage Americana's hatching eggs from someone he knows in March to get some LF chickens, and he told me he would let me know, because I told him I would probably be interested in getting some too. Because don't they lay blue or green eggs.

Sorry I can't help you out on the Blue Silkie Rooster, I don't think any of mine are Blue. But I'm really wondering about the chocolate one, its gotten so big in the last week.

Here's a quick photo of the babies, they are getting big so fast, they are all either 7 or 8 days old today. Goes by so fast...

The one in the middle is the biggest of the group from Red, but it also came out of an extremely large egg, I'm hoping that its not a Rooster because of the size, I love the copper coming in on the feathers.

Is this a pure white silkie?
LL
The one on the right? Tooo cute!

I was hoping for a pure white, but I think they might be Buff. Its still hard to tell because I do have 2 that are more buff on the top, then the others are like yellow, so I don't know. Not sure what the white chipmunk is going to look like, its starting to get white feathers with black in them. Going to be fun to watch it grow up. Its going to be hard to choose just 2 of those Silkies to stay here, I think 4 Silkies is plenty for my yard. :D

Oh thanks for the info! Unfortunately I don't have any ladies that are broody right now(at least I don't think so, how can you tell?) or an incubator! I would love to get one but right now I don't know that it would be affordable since I just build a new coop and am in the process of getting a hoop house up!

Okay... I'm officially a chicken nerd. I just got excited because I figured out what I can do with the tiny Bantam Eggs. So I like to make hardboiled eggs sandwiches, and 1 egg is never enough, but 2 is too much, but the Bantam egg plus LF makes them just right. hahahaah
