Utah!

Hey Cynthia...I will have a couple Welsummers around may/june that will be 4 months old. Wanna trade?

Trade for what? One of my Silkies that are going to hatch. Crossing fingers that they will hatch! I've actually been thinking of the Welsummer. Pretty dark speckled egg..lay a bit better than the Marans.

I wish I had a nice white, splash or blue silkie to trade for a Welsummer. Wonder if I can find some eggs. I'm going to try to have that bator totally full for the Easter Hatch. But then I will have to sell off at least 30 chicks the first week. That shouldn't be to hard right?

Speaking of Silkies, the guy I got them from called last night to see how my hatch went, he has a few other people that want to buy some for hatching and he didn't know what to tell them. Well he was really surprised on the colors I got, he said he has a white broody that always hatches out either white or black, but he said that she's probably only sitting on her eggs, he thought maybe she would steal a few from the other hens. He was for sure they would all be white or black, since he has all whites and blacks, and just the one buff hen. But he was also surprised that I did have 10 fertile out of the 12 eggs, he was sad that I lost 2 more at day 14, and that I only had 6 out of the 8 hatch. But I told him I was super happy that 6 of them hatched. He wanted to know if I wanted some more to try again for a black or a white. hmmm very tempting since I need to fill up that bator on March 30th.

So far I'm getting some OE from Wendy, I might tell her to through in some FBCM, so that way I have one pullet that will start laying next year since my other 2 will be 2 next year, and both took forever to start laying. And I think I'm going to get some Ameruacana Eggs to put in there too, just for fun. I love all the puffy cheeks. :D

Silly, your GS stuff is so cute! I love it! I hope you have lovely weather for your booths.

Cynthia, I picked my cookies Saturday, and have delivered 60 or so so far. The booths will officially appear around the 14th. I think we get to have different opinions on breeds of girls. I think it's funny that you love the leghorns so much because mine was so flighty, she never let us touch her, even though we raised her from a chick. I did love my SBEL. I figured it was the ameraucana in her. LOL

I have to admit I gave my cookie manager a bottle of rum as a thank you for helping us with the cookies this year. LOL I realized I forgot to give something similar to my last cookie manager, so I need to go give her a belated thank you gift.

Here's my girls at their booth last year. We had a cheap table cloth, and I bought a bunch of balloons from Dollar tree. Each girl got one, and then we had another half dozen tied to the table. I jokingly told the moms that whichever girl lost her balloon thereby volunteered her mom to be the next cookie manager. Nervous laughing and tightly tying the balloon to her daughter quickly ensued.

I do so solemnly swear not to eat a marans egg until June- I'll hatch all of the good ones I get. Right now, I'm collecting for AreYouCluckingAtMe. I didn't love my first marans- she wasn't very friendly, and wasn't a good layer. This batch of girls I have now are pretty decent layers, and are much sweeter and friendlier. Maybe it's because I hatched/raised them?

Awesome Costumes Wendy! I wish I was your cookie mom, I could use a bottle of Rum. Well my almost 6 year old sold 510 pre-sale, and I have no idea how we are going to deliver them all, but here is to hoping right. LOL

Wendy both the Marans I got from you are extremely sweet, they are both on the bottom of the hen order too. Penguin of course is more friendlier then the 2nd one I got from you. But I can walk right up to both of them. Strangers they hide.

I just love all the cookie pictures. I too have fond memories of that. The big storm hit here in Mesa yesterday. It did rain really hard. Because the ground is baked so hard the ground does not abosrb the water so it just runs to low ground. The road in front of our rv looked like a mini river. the air is so nice and clear today. Lots of deep puddles here and the kids are having fun riding their bike through them. I must say it looks like fun. My Marens is the sweetest hen she does not pick fights and lays the most beautiful dark eggs. I am very happy with her

This is my first post but I've been using BYC for a couple of years now, excellent forum.

I just finished my first hatch and it didn't go so well. I only was able to successfully hatch one egg out of 18. I think my humidity was to low. I'm ready for another shot.

I ordered some eggs from Texas and shipping went well but, they were shipped eggs. When I ordered them I couldn't find any Utah breeders to get some fertile eggs from. I'd like to get some eggs that are local that I can pick up instead of ship them. I'm living in Heber and would like to find someone within an hour drive time. I've found some breeders on KSL but I thought I'd check on here to see if I can get a Utahn and a BYCer! I'm not picky on the breed other than I want good layers.

So, does anyone have some eggs I can hatch?

Newbee here,

What chicken feed does everyone use and where do you get it?

Blondie

Newbie! Not sure where you live, but I am in Spanish Fork, and I buy my feed from Leland Mills. I get twice the feed for the price of one bag in the stores. My chickens love it..and they are going well on it. :)
