Utah!

These are my baby chicks. 4 Red Rhode Island and 4 Laced Wyandottes! They are way bigger than this now. They are now 4 weeks old. I need some ideas for an in between coop before I can put them in the big coop with my adult chickens. Can I leave them in what I have until then or should I get another coop to put them in. I just don't know what to do! Thanks

What adorable lil sweethearts! I love the first lil black one with the puff on her head. Im going to guess right there at 2.5-3 weeks old :)

Hey everyone! This morning I was silkie hunting :) at the Draper IFA. Surprisingly they had quite a few! And they were big! The lady I talked to said that their silkies aren't selling as well this year as other years in the past. (Wow!!!) She had no idea how old they were, mixed ages, but guessed that some were over a month old or more. They were in with other teeny tiny bantams and the little holes in the feeders were set to the perfect size for teenies. The silkies kept getting their heads stuck and then the others would peck them so their backs and wings are pretty bare. Our city only allows 8 hens so I could only take 3.
(darn it!) Anyway...to make a long story even longer :)...now that I have them home and set up in their very own brooder away from my teeny tinies, I have no idea how old these babies are. Any silkie experts out there have any ideas?

Also, what can I do to help them get their feathers back? I have vitamins and electrolytes in their water and gave them some scrambled eggs...anything else?
Thanks guys!!!

Need your help!!! I have 6 chickens right now and 8 chicks. I was wondering will my chicken coop and area work for 14 chickens???? Please help. I might need to add another roosting bar but do your think this will be okay when the chicks are ready to go in?

I started another thread about the wheaten colored SBEL that everyone thought was a cockerel, now everyone is saying pullet! Yay!!

Ok, remember a while back I had someone that was considering selling her small flock of legbars? There was someone on here that was interested. I can't remember who.

She a rooster, and 4 hens. She didn't give me a price, but can find out soon. She is now wanting them gone as soon as possible.

I would love them, but I am not ready yet

Judging by the pictures looks like maybe an 8x4 coop and 16x16 run? If so, my 16 birds are comfortable in the same size (they have a bit of extra run space under the coop, which juts out from the run instead of being inside it), but a bit crowded. I need to turn the deep litter more often and add straw to the run more often, but otherwise, they are OK and survived the winter just fine. They aren't exhibiting signs of being over crowded (picking/egg eating), either. Hope that helps?

The Japanese bantam has taken over 3 eggs today, and is sitting on them again. At least she is in a nest box. But not sure I would want her to be if I let her sit. I tried that yesterday and she hated being in the shipping crate coop. I don't know what to do with her? I don't know if I should try giving her 2 of these chicks I have here, I have the leghorns and they are pretty small. But I don't know where to put her with them. She is in the main coop right now. I can block her off in the nest box in the main coop, but she will just be in the box. I can put food and water in there, but I would have to move her to the shipping crate coop for the chicks to start to wander around, because the grow out pen has the 2 month old chicks in it, and I think here in another week or two they might be okay with the whole flock. They've been outside with them for 3 weeks that I think in a week or 2 they should be okay, they have enough space.

Any thoughts on if I should just let her be with the eggs and just kick her out everyday or take them from her or try to give her some chicks. Thoughts?

You should give her some fertile eggs. Thats what i always do when one of my girls go broody. If you can find something good let me know i could go in on a dozen with you. I have a Silkie that is sitting on wood eggs, poor girl. I cant believe your Silkies havent gone broody yet. You better not let them see the bantam they might catch the broody bug, thats what happened in my coop.
