Utah!

$35 a chick is actually an amazing bargain. Last year, I was selling pullets for $75 each, so the price has come way down.

I have two legbar hens. However, I sadly lost my rooster last fall, so that breeding program is in the dust at the moment.

My last FBCM chick hatched in the night. 6 gorgeous, healthy chicks.

I just was looking on Ebay and they have hatching eggs 6+ for 10.99. I bet you could get at least one roo from that if you are into hatching.

The cream legbars are still a newer breed. GFF is selling them for 59.00 a chick and then you still have to ship them. Shipped eggs are a gamble as well. I would pay $35 for an autosexing chick that is still selling for $59+. Just my two cents as this was a breed that I was really interested in last year.

I guess I should have done my homework! I knew they were a rarer breed but it just seemed a lot to pay for something that can perish so easily.

Does anyone know of someone who sells Cream Legbar chicks or hatching eggs in Northern Utah?? I saw some chicks on KSL for $35 a chick! I can get hatching eggs off of Ebay for much less but I wanted to buy locally first if that option exists for a reasonable price.

I have a friend that is trying to sell a roo and 4 hens.

How does your 4 week old silkie chick look so much bigger and more fully feathered then my almost 4 week old silkies? Is it because yours are outside and have to grow more rapidly to keep warm? Mine still seem so small. They barely have a fuzz strip going down their back. Mine are indoors all the time still with a 90 watt bulb.

My chicks now are 10 weeks old, but I usually take away the heat lamp inside at 2 weeks old, and just leave a 70 watt bulb over them. They never seem cold and usually don't crowd under the light. When they were outside was on the nice days that it got up to around 70 in full sun, and they had a coop to go in if they wanted too. I would only leave them out for a few hours, and bring the back in.

Oh ok awesome, thanks for the tip. I may start to reduce their heat then. They are 4 weeks old today and look great but yours look bigger in that pic so I wasent sure if the heat was making them grow slower or something.

I saw that this morning :) Thanks lol. Although I am not confident those are their birds actual pictures. More often then not I see people use nice pics of silkies to advertise theirs but rarely are they bearded or even fluffy like those. I would check them out anyway but Roy is just way too far from me. Honestly, it's probably for the best because I will pretty much be at my limit once I get one or possibly two from Cynthia. Then I better stop for now, and wait till I know what I have lol.

lol! I can understand that!

by the way, that little black girl is doing great! those bullies only had to stay in chicky time out overnight before they got the idea! I noticed she is also getting in a few brown feathers on her neck (just barely starting to show) wonder what that means!?!?!

Probably just going to have a lil brown shimmer to her black is my guess. I am so glad they are finally all getting along :)
