Utah!

I would think you should be okay with just Silkies in there. I was told by our city that they needed 4 square feet per chicken to have a legal chicken coop. I've read on here that 4 square feet is ideal, but nothing under 3 square feet. So really 4 x 4 would only be 4 chickens. But if you just have Silkies, you should be fine since they are so little, but if you had larger chickens, not really sure. I guess I'm just used to my huge 12 foot by 9 foot coop. So not sure what 4 by 4 would look like. I can't even imagine it.
Thanks sillycmoy. Yes they will all be only silkies and it's their nesting/roosting house that is 4x4ft but the actual run area they will have is 4ftx15ft long.

That is recommended for coop, not run. But actual coop. But you should be fine with just Silkies
Ok. I hope so. I figured that with their size and how silkies tend to like to all bundle up together when they sleep that a 4x4 coop would probably be just fine for them. And hoping a 15ft run will be a good size for them to :)

Love your handsome rooster! Had to point this photo out...lol..On the Hatch A Long, there was a contest..photo bomb..I think you could have won the contest with this photo! Cute.

Save it, you may be able to enter it in another photo bomb contest somewhere else!

Ace, I'd say it's definitely not too late to put some fertile eggs under her.

iluvmysilkies, I think 4x4 would be just fine.

Lisa, that boy sure is handsome. How is the crowing now?

If anyone near Cache Valley wants to add a fan to their still air I can do it like this video:

I have all the components that I scavenged for free from old computers so I could do it at no cost.

My chicks have been on the medicated feed from IFA since I got them March 15. That bag is finally depleted. What type of feed do any of you suggest from here until fall/winter?

I feed my chicks the chick starter till about 10-12 weeks old when I run out of chick feed around that age, I then feed them flock grower or all flock if I have the older hens that will be eating it too until they start laying, then I feed them Layer Feed. I do the 16% during the summer and then the 18-20% during the winter. And they get free range, scraps, and osyter shell all year long.
