I would think you should be okay with just Silkies in there. I was told by our city that they needed 4 square feet per chicken to have a legal chicken coop. I've read on here that 4 square feet is ideal, but nothing under 3 square feet. So really 4 x 4 would only be 4 chickens. But if you just have Silkies, you should be fine since they are so little, but if you had larger chickens, not really sure. I guess I'm just used to my huge 12 foot by 9 foot coop. So not sure what 4 by 4 would look like. I can't even imagine it.

Thanks sillycmoy. Yes they will all be only silkies and it's their nesting/roosting house that is 4x4ft but the actual run area they will have is 4ftx15ft long.

Ok. I hope so. I figured that with their size and how silkies tend to like to all bundle up together when they sleep that a 4x4 coop would probably be just fine for them. And hoping a 15ft run will be a good size for them to

My chicks have been on the medicated feed from IFA since I got them March 15. That bag is finally depleted. What type of feed do any of you suggest from here until fall/winter?

I feed my chicks the chick starter till about 10-12 weeks old when I run out of chick feed around that age, I then feed them flock grower or all flock if I have the older hens that will be eating it too until they start laying, then I feed them Layer Feed. I do the 16% during the summer and then the 18-20% during the winter. And they get free range, scraps, and osyter shell all year long.
