Did you put them on KSL? I have had a lot of luck selling chickens this year.

Wyoming has recently passed laws protecting farmers trying to sell products directly to consumers.

There is now a movement in Utah trying to do the same thing. I hope this gets some traction and comes to fruition. I know a lot of folks that would like me to raise chicken for consumption and I'm wary of it because of so many people getting shut down for doing it. I would also like to sell raw milk someday.

It is always a concern that the goods we may sell (chicks, chickens for consumption, or eggs) for money or trade will get us in trouble somehow for not going through certain licensing or inspections...also I buy from the farmers market regularly and would much rather buy produce that way than from a store where it has gone through all the inspections and licenses, as well as pesticides, growth fertilizers, and gosh knows what else. Local farmers can probably not do as much damage to their homegrown goods if they tried to on purpose, as the commercial producers haha!

It would be nice to have some sort of protection from frivolous law suits...I am really careful who gets eggs from me for that reason, it is hard to trust people in this day and age unfortunately, but I love the old fashioned hand shake agreements and would never take advantage of others in those circumstances. It would be so nice to eliminate some of the red tape and government interference in our food sources!

Er ma gersh, you guys. I went from having never had a broody hen to having one last year. I've had three so far this year, and then today, I have two more that want to as well. It was bringing these wyandottes on board that was the game changer. ha ha ha So I have 9 under my broody EE, and I am debating whether to split the clutch up, and put three each under these two wyandottes -- or just break them (the broodies, not the eggs...). Anyone know how long it takes a broken broody to return to lay after being broody, but not hatching? Our current clutch is due to hatch next Tuesday. If they aren't going to be laying anyway, I might as well just give them each some eggs. If it doesn't take long to return to lay, I may just break them. Glad I put more eggs under the EE than I originally intended...

hey, is anyone interested in some backyard mix suspected roos? they are 4 weeks old... (I hatched them on May 19th) and they're starting to cause a few problems with each other... they are mixed with a salmon faverolle, but I'm not sure which ones are EE mix, and the other ones, what they're mixed with (wasn't sure which egg they came out of) but nearly all of them have fluffy cheeks, and feathered feet.

There are at least 3, maybe 4 that I need to rehome. If somebody would like them... they're free... I really just want them to go to someone who will appreciate them.

There is a leghorn x salmon faverolle (white, with some black spots) which I thought could have been a pullet at first, but now I'm not sure, It's comb is getting big, and a tinge of pink... so yeah... I have no idea... It was one of the 2 in the scuffle... and got a little beat up on it's comb...(nothing huge).

Nope. I am picky about who I sell eggs/chicks to because I don't want to be responsible for people running amok and willfully diluting the genetics of the Icelandics. I have thought about selling my flock into good hands, though. Breeding the birds seems to be stressing DH a lot.

any extra eggs i get i give to family that i trust for free. sometimes they will try to chip in on feed but i dont like it. but yeah we need to do more to protect farmers. i mean the more stupid rules we have makes farmers not want to farm and then what will we do. we should make life as easy for farmers as we can. and by farmers i include people who have urban farms and such. and local is always better imo. its funny that they get so upset over raw milk and such but not over the chemicals and such they put on our food.

Totally. I'm so thankful that we get fresh, healthy eggs from our ladies. I shudder when I look at the store-bought ones. We have been trying to raise some of our own meat birds, too. Does anyone here raise their own worms, mealworms, or crickets? I would farm worms, but we've got plenty in our lawn, hehe I saw a thing the other day on cricket bars. I think they sound interesting.
