Birdman, I think I have had birds do that. I know at least one of my turkeys hens is in molt, and she's less than a year old, I think.

its been a while since i have gone through this but remind me will chickens from the spring molt in the fall of their first year?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I think I will try to sterilize a needle and poke to see what comes out. If it's pus filled, are antibiotics warranted? If so, is there a specific (or at least broad spectrum) type for chickens I can pick up from IFA or the likes?
On a happier note, we ordered a custom built coop that should be coming in this evening. Our A-frame coop has been working fine but the run portion is very difficult to keep clean as you have to crawl inside on your hands and knees - not fun on the back nor pleasant to come out only to find your pants covered in poo![]()
