Utah!

Happy birthday Cynthia!

Lizardandchicks, thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

Kind of sad because I sold all my silkies yesterday. I've discovered my bantam coop works great for a broody and chicks, but isn't a good winner coop. I'm moving my Cochin and her two chicks in with the big girls, but there just wasn't room for everyone. I told my husband when we get our manor estate I'm having a coop full of silkies.

Then this morning I sent my non laying, mean Easter egger to freezer camp ( well, refrigerator camp). It wasn't as bad I had feared, but not my favorite thing.

But on the positive side now I have under the legal amount of chickens so I can start planning for next spring. Buff Orpingtons....

So hard to say good bye, But then it is funny how fast the wheels start turning about acquiring new ones :D

@Cynthia12....can you tell which of those eggs I sent you are fertile? I have someone looking for Marans and wondering if the Splash for sure is giving us fertile eggs. Hard to candle, I know...I thought I would check though on yours, I hate to break one open to look because I get so few in a week from her. Hope the olive and blue eggs are doing good. I am having such a hard time waiting to set eggs until the new year! I put my bators up, but not in the garage, in the house closet, so they are not too hard to get out just in case I cave in....lol. Christmas babies would be so fun.

and you cannot lie
Ha!

I was trying to find a pic that shows the size of my IFA Orps but none are good representations. For the person that was inquiring, I got 2 and one is a small 6 lbs and one is a huge 10 lbs. It is certainly not consistent. They laid fairly well all through the first winter but started moulting a couple mos ago and haven't got an egg since they started. It doesn't matter to me though cause they are more pets than food production for us. They are still my favorite chickens, so easy to keep around sweet and fun personalities.

I was going to let you know, that I did candle last night, day 8. I had to toss several of the big blue eggs, but I still have three that are developing. I could actually see movement in several of the marans eggs! I am excited. I just took them out and put them in another bator where I can keep them a bit warmer than this other bator does. I am hearing for marans eggs, lower humidty, and higher temps. The Olive eggs are looking good to me because the air sacs are developing in almost all..had to toss one that was actually very clear and easy to see into. Well, one, I couldn't tell by the air cell, but since the others looked good, I kept it.
The two big sex link mix eggs are good. :) You know that makes me happy. The big monster egg .. had to toss. I know I tossed 6. The monster egg..three blues, an OE and a marans was very clear.

So, I think I may get me some babies. Hard to believe those big eggs are doing well. I still have one of the huge blue eggs, the other two must be pullet eggs. Those sex link eggs are huge too, I hope they keep going too. :)
