Utah!

It's been a while since I've been on (though I check the forums on occasion). How's everyone doing? What are yall up to? And hello to anyone who hasn't seen me on.

From the posts it looks like a lot of you are raising chicks (though I feel some of you never stopped ;] ).

I saw at the Ogden IFA that they would 'help' in rehoming unwanted roosters, I believe this to be a good thing, though many may not wish to have such an opportunity. It is all part and parcel of the wonders of keeping birds. And every now and then you will lose one, expected or not. Working with live animals is not a guaranteed thing. Results may vary a long way from that which you wish. Part of the excitement of it all…

We had a nice dose of snow this morning, it will be gone by days end, I hope.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

Well it snowed, it is wet, and cold. So a good day to do some catch up posting. I am going to the Jazz vs Lakers game this evening, so nothing is going to get done. But I wanted to share some pictures of the grandchildren on Saturdays big Ester shebang at our place. I am one to always try to keep 'something' of the farm in the kids. Even if it is in the offering of a little scratch, finding those wonderful golden eggs, or catching a bird to pet. It is all good by me.

This in my 1K post on BYC and in someways it is sort of special. Took me about three years, to reach the 'grand' club. Always new things cooking round the place and the last two pictures are of my Icelandic chicks, which were set today. How cool to have a few items of note to mark the day. Hoping this finds all of you well, and your birds the same.

Best to all and your birds,

RJ

Agreed! I'm a little embarrassed that it only took me about 6 months to hit 1000. And I know none of them had as much as RJ's do. Congratulations!

OH, you guys… it is really not that big of a thing, but a milestone nonetheless. And kind of kool to go from being 'Over Run With Chickens' to 'Obsessed With Chickens.' I don't put a hole lot of worth in a post count value, but I suppose a fun thing and to occur on the same day as my Icee eggs are to be set, makes it a day to note.

Thanks for the little high-five things.

RJ

Happy 1000 club RJ! Maybe someday I'll join you.

Well, been having a little excitement. My chicks are all still alive. I was a little worried about the two new ones I bought, but I guess starting them on corid and locking everybody in the coop for a few more days has really helped. The new chicks were magically able to manage the ramp and don't seem so miserable outside.

My gold sex link got egg bound with a soft shelled egg, but I got that treated. She's still laying soft shelled eggs. I've tried boosting her calcium, so I'll see how that works out.

I have to give full credit to my wonderful husband who helped me out while I was treating Sunny. "Honey, I need petrolium jelly". "Honey, Could you grab the preparation H?". "Honey, can you grab me a new towel, the chicken pooped all over this one." And never a complaint :)

Ha I should have pointed out that mine were pullet bin chicks. Sorry for the omission. Yes that would be great straight run odds. I should have said "if you find bins marked pullet, then.....50/50 odds but this year I didn't notice the pullet notation....though I was not buying so not looking closely I only saw the sign that said "IFA does not guarantee the sex of any chick".
