I just talked with the IFA in Riverton and they are getting some fuzzballs starting 2/16. They won't have all the breeds right away, though, so you might want to call and ask what will be in and when if you want a specific breed.

I asked about the EE's and Polish - EE's will be on 2/22 and Polish on 3/9.

They are day old, I think. My friend got a ton of fuzzballs from there last year, of which I inherited several when they were older. All of them were quite healthy. The only one that died was a chick that her son's friend dropped. She did wash their little bums a few times, because I guess one reason baby chicks die off so much is that their vents get pasty and they cannot poop. Something to consider to lower your mortality rate.

I recommend calling the IFA. My friend told me to call the one in Riverton because she thought they had the best selection last year. This is the IFA website though, so if you don't want to drive to Riverton you could start with calling one closer to you. http://ifa-coop.com/country-stores

My general experience with the IFA closest to my house (17th South and 12th or so West) is that they are extremely knowledgeable. In fact, the teenage kid who recommended a lighting schedule to my friend increased her egg production by leaps and bounds. Very impressive!!!!

The IFA on 17th South and 12th West in SLC is getting fuzzballs on 2/10. A week from tomorrow.

If I get little tiny day old chicks, don't I need special stuff, like a warming light and cage in my house etc...? I think I am too "chicken" to try my hand at tiny babies... I like getting them when they are more like a month or so old...

another question for you Utah chicken people...

What is the difference between an IFA and a feed type store. There is a "Rocken E" country store in Bountiful near me and a "Dallas Green" feed in Layton near me. Is it all the same thing? I looked at the link of IFA stores and those 2 weren't on there. Thanks in advance for your insight!

I'm not sure if they have a breeder list that they distribute or not. I'm still fairly new to the club. I'm sure that if you came to one of the meetings one of the directors could answer your breeder questions.

If you go to any farm-type store and tell them that you want "layers mash" or "layers pellets" they should be able to help you. I've heard some people say that IFA is more expensive than some of the other stores in SL County, but it's the closest one to me and I am not terribly interested in going a few miles out of my way to save a buck per month.

On the IFA website, it shows a store up in Ogden - that's somewhat close. Maybe someone closer to you can tell you of a good feed store in Northern Davis county.
