That is so exciting - Congrats! We're probably the only ones that understands it feels like Christmas morning to get those first eggs.

ElkMtnCove, just a thought about your feather pickers. Have you tried increasing their protien? I was having the same problem with an Ameraucana pullet I have and once I increased their protien she stopped. I mix game bird pellets with layer food. Hope this helps. I don't know anything about the pinless peepers.

Good idea. I feed Layena Pellet, which they didn't know how to eat at first. They love it now but I think I'll give them some cottage cheese, chopped hard boiled eggs, etc.

One of my roos got his peeper off too.

oh my, just re-read that last sentence. it wasn't meant to sound that way! I'm hoping the "pinless peepers" help me keep these roos until we can build a batchelor pad for them (unless someone wants two banty roos for pets?). My poor girls backs have the bald spots and I can't afford to put dresses on them all.

I've got very regular customers for about 4 dozen a week, and a couple other hit-and-miss customers for about 4 more dozen a week.
Last week a lady called and said her supplier from Ogden dried up, and she wanted 4 dozen! I barley made that order (had to give up ~my~ breakfast for a week!) and now she wants to become a regular too. Then, the ladies only laid 18 eggs yesterday.

Maybe I should raise my prices back up to $4/dozen. They seem to be pretty popular at $3...

I usually go to the IFA in Draper. 12300 South and 900 East. I'm not thrilled with their food, but it does the job. There's a gal (Christie Brown) who re-sells grain from Idaho and/or American Fork area. It's worth the extra buck or so a bag I pay, rather than arrange for it myself. I like her 3 and 4 grain mix that she has, but she's often out of the stuff. (like right now....) She's located on 10650ish South and 1200 East. There's also an IFA in South Jordan. 12300 and Redwood I think.

IFA also has large bricks of Dry-Nest wood shavings. I go through one ever couple of months. They're $10 a pop. IFA's grain just went up in price this week(?) to about $17/50#. Although grain is sky rocketing everywhere. I may buy 500# on my next order from Christie. My ladies eat so much more in the winter, and seem to lay less.

Steve Regan does have the best price (only price?) on a 50# of DE. It's about $30. It's tough though, because they're only open 8-5, M-F. They're on 7th West and about 4200 South (I think).

Hardware cloth? Dunno. Check Home Depot and Lowes.

Hope that helps.

I've never been to Steve Regan Co - I'm in Utah County, and don't get up there much during their hours.

Have you checked KSL.com's online ads for food and/or supplies? In their poultry and gamebirds section, there are usually ads for various feeds. Just go to that section and search for "feed" - it'll pull up a bunch of ads. I've gotten feed from a woman in Eagle Mountain that has been great, and cheaper than stores. Her name is Margaret (can't remember her last name, sorry).

Try searching Craigslist and/or KSL.com for hardware cloth. I've found it on both sites, for less than local stores.
