Looks like great project. We are also converting stall to henhouse. Wondering about having seperate "Nugget" run for the future processed birds, like the naughty roo.

Show us pics as you go along!

first off, welcome. i'm in the same boat with the chicken math. we're at 11 chicks right now and need to quell the addiction until we know how many we can really handle.

i'm new at this but you may want to check with a few more experienced folks if you plan to keep the silkie with the larger breeds as chicks. she may get trampled as the larger breeds grow a lot quicker and end up being 3.5 times larger in the end.

That's a really good point! I had not thought of that & appreciate you pointing that out to me

@deesings - oohh fun!! I love seeing pictures that show the progress being made. The weather is finally starting to look nice too which helps!

I have almost everything we need to put together our brooder. Today I picked up a huge chest of drawers box to use. Four more days & we'll have baby chicks, it's been a long 2 week wait! I'm very excited & so are the kids

Hello fellow Utahns, Since I have officially filed for my conditional use permit and have baby chicks in the garage I thought it was time for me to join the forum. To maintain my anonimity, I will call myself Jr Birdman. While I was serving as a city councilman I helped pass an ordinance that allows chickens, That was a couple of years ago and I am no longer on the council. I didn't think I would ever get chickens because of my spouse, but with the help of my son my better half agreed and is behind me 100%. I plan on building my rodent proof chicken coop prototype this next week. We shall see how that goes. I have used a similar design for other poultry I have raised

Oh cool! More waterfowl folk!

We just bought their future pond today! Slowly but surely getting there. Also got their lock-up pen that we'll keep their secure coop and a little pool of water in....their big pond that we just got will go outside of their lock-up when they have free run of the garden area. Can't wait to get started...if this weather ever allows!

We're going to be putting in a small little bio-filtration system to help with the cleanliness of the pond and also help with the container garden we'll be growing. It gives us a reason to get our crappy backyard turned into some place you actually want to relax and enjoy! LOL Hmmm...maybe we should put a chicken coop/pen in another area! Then we'd be set!

Tour de Coops is accepting applications for those who wish to show/show-off their chicken set-ups. There is a south valley tour this year, so they are excited to get Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, Draper, etc. chicken keepers on board. You can fill out an application and get tour info at http://wasatchgardens.org/node/468. The tour is scheduled for June 18 from 10am to 2pm.

Hi everyone out there in Utah
smile.png
I'm here in Orem raising a small flock of chickens, ducks, and starting in turkeys. I was looking for a broody hen on the local calssifieds (KSL) and someone sent me here. I'm doing a staggered hatch in my incubator and need some broodies to help me with my lockdowns. If anyone near Orem has one and want me to take them off their hands. Email me @ [email protected]

Any breed ,size, or age will work as long as she is a reliable hen

Thank you!
