Omigosh, those kids are soooooooo cute!!!!!! Adorable! Is quads kind of unusual? It seems like I've heard twins are fairly common, but I didn't know quads happened often. I've been toying with the idea of getting a fainting goat.


Red, I'm so sorry for the loss of your hens. I would be devastated. I hope you catch the critter.

Last year this goat had triplets and had one that had quints. For goats its not that uncommon to have more then two

This bill is trying to make it OK to have chickens in cages no bigger than there bodies. If this bill passes then they cannot be challenged for humaine laws. We have to stop this.

The place I work at has a couple of traps sitting around in the shop that I'm sure I could borrow (my bosses are pretty good about that) They're the Havahart brand, and it's the kind that has a door on either end of the mesh box with a trigger plate in the middle. I figure I'll take some of the "leftovers" of the predator's last meal and use that to bait the trap. It's time for it to pay for that nice, chicken dinner I gave it

wow sorry about your hens what kind of trap are you going to use? they have cheap traps at cal ranch, i buy some for decorations and then i will use them if i ever need to. i got a coil spring leg trap that is awesome, it is the duke brand and is very well made and it only cost me about $5. but yeah it sounds like a coon. if i can be of help, let me know

When my flock was attacked, I used a humane trap. I didn't want to accidentally kill an innocent animal that had nothing to do with my flock's demise. My neighbor did have some of the kill traps that we put in this ditch area that a domestic dog or cat wouldn't have gone into- but we had seen raccoons in. I was ok with that.


OK, Joey. For some reason, your post hadn't shown up when I posted. Maybe I'd written most of the post, wandered off for a while, and then came back and hit "Submit" (this is a frequent occurence).

I actually went through and read the entire bill. I don't see it doing the things you're talking about doing. It prohibits small cages from being built, and then slowly has the industry transitioning to larger and larger cages in a three step process. It prohibits forced moltings, and it regulates what kind of euthanasia is acceptable.

The larger cages aren't immediate, but I understand that immediate compliance to the largest cage mentioned in the bill isn't economically feasible for the businesses. It also exempts any business that has less than 3000 hens. While not ideal, it's also understandable.

In my mind, I see the bill as a positive thing and a step towards a much more humane existence for battery hens. Please explain how you see it as negative?

you are welcome. i like traps and i may not of used them as much as a trapper does but i do know a lot about them and how to use them safely. there is a trap made for coons where its a tube that you put a cotton ball soaked with liquid bait and the coon reaches in and gets snapped. i hope you get the coon! those box traps are great

Here's my 2 cents... (probably not worth that much but here it is anyway) I see this bill having several problems.. The biggest being that it takes any ability by the States to regulate the cage size in the egg laying industry... for that matter, it removes anything short of a new bill being passed into law of changing anything.. and it does very little to address the actual problems of overcrowdedness, humane treatment etc.

Current requirements are 67 square inches per white egg laying hen and over the next 15 years it will increase this requirement gradually to 144 square inches at the largest??? SERIOUSLY??? That would mean my new barn is big enough to house 4642 hens!!! and that's not counting the 4642 I could put upstairs!! or stacking any cages!! The bill states that it will give adequate room for a hen to perch, scratch, nest, dust bath etc... current requirement is for .465 square feet per hen and will become an incredibly spacious 1 square foot per hen in after 15 years... Even my icelandics and banties need more than 1 square foot to do all that let alone .465 square feet..
