Utah!

Okay, so I broke down and helped the two stuck chicks out. The other four eggs aren't pipped or making any noise,

The two I helped out are moderately frantic and can't seem to get their legs under them, but I will give them a few hours and see what happens. I've put them back in the hatching tray for now to keep them warm and safe. I really hate this...

I know how hard it is when you have to do this. I personally will go ahead and put them into the brooder with the others if they are strong enough to make peeping sounds, and act like they are trying to get up. I keep going back to the room and put them on their tum mys, with their legs under them, they get the hang of it pretty quick most of the time. But, if the others are walking all over them, then try and make a separate area in the brooder for them. They may take through the night to sleep, and when you get up in the morning, come in to babies that are on their tummies on their own. I think they will do better though, with the sounds of the other chicks near by.
Good Luck!

My chicks from Meyer get shipped out tomorrow morning! Let's hope they're here by Wednesday!

I hope they come by Wed. It might be Thursday. Mine will be shipped out by the 11th. I am going to have chicks gallore! KSL here I come, after I get my first pick. :))

Oh Donna I sure hope your chicks are ok. Hang in there! I got one a while ago that took nearly two days to learn to get up on his/her feet. Squawked an awful lot until she figured it out. Mostly I just helped dip her beak in the water and she wanted a drink soooo bad it finally worked.

This is great. HenRee, the GSL that is featherpicking, has been banished from the coop and run during the day---left in the yard to be distracted from the picking. We wanted to keep her out until the dark, so everybody could get sleepy before putting her back to bed in the coop. After several attempts trying to walk into my patio window she finally settled here.

She turns her back on me.....
Makes me feel sorry for her. But she got herself in this mess ;) Maybe after a few days of this she will be nicer :p

Yes, we carried her out and put her on the roost after she and the others were sleepy. I am too worried a critter will get her if she is out all night. Plus she lays first thing in the morning so she will like having her nest close. So for now....no drama til morning :) I noticed the positioning...the optimistic side of me says "awww, she loves us and wants to be by us", the pessimistic side says, "she came up her to crap where we will step in it..." so she is either giving us some love or giving us the 'bird'......haha :D :D

Okay, so here is the update on the chicks: one is up and walking and looking pretty dang good. The other gets up and tries to walk, but the legs keep going backward and the chick has to brace itself against a wall to keep from falling over. Still, the little tyke is trying hard, so there is still hope. My oldest son and I just bathed them again with q-tips and warm water to get the guck off them, hoping that would help some. That stuff is like freaking glue, and one can never be quite sure it is all off! Anyway, we stuck them back in the brooder so they could fluff out before going in with the others-- I've noticed that already-fluffed chicks will tend to peck the snot out of any that aren't fluffed yet, and these little tykes have had it rough enough already. We will see how they are doing in the morning. I'm thinking I will likely have to try bracing the one chicks legs, but I can't tell yet if it's actually the legs or if it is more up at the hip joints. We will see what tomorrow brings...

I've had them lay with their legs like that too. I put them in a shallow short glass..paper towel in the bottom and prop their head up on a thick part of the towel, to hold the head up. Ok, did that make sense?

Lisa..she sat there to poop on your porch..chickens get even! J/K! I don't think they do. Glad she got put back in..you want that egg anyway. :p
Maybe she can go out again tomorrow. ? You can't have her pecking on those blues coming your way!
