Hi Guys, Got a question. Birdie has this red spot on both sides of her head. Nobody else has this who are the same breed (sex link) and same age. Should we be concerned? She is active and happy acting otherwise I would be freaked! Help! ucm

Yes, that looks ok. The barred rock has quite a bit of red on the face...which she probably has some of in her.. Look up barred rocks, and you will see what I mean. She is going to be a beautiful girl! The pure black birds have a beautiful turquoise sheen to them. She will fill out more in the face too.

My middle son and I are planning to be there around 11 AM and staying until mid afternoon. I've never been to one, so I'm excited to see what happens at them!

I was there from about 12:30 until the Auction was over. My boy got 7 D'anvers and got 2 pairs of silver blue Modern Games

So when I checked Princess (the BO that got hurt) out tonight her foot looks bruised. Everything still feels normal, but just looks a little bruised. Do you think she's okay? The little girls that were over here when it happened feel so bad, one was praying for Princess and the other started crying because she said she stepped on her foot. So they feel so badly and I really hope that this is something she will get better from.

Hey...that actually doesn't look too bad. ) Not much swelling. Give her time, just like us when we get bruised. Is she limping on it? The not so swelled look is a good sign to me.

Yes, she limps a bit and if she is standing still she is like a flamingo with her right leg tucked up. So she should pull through. She is still eating and drinking and all that. Thanks for responding!

Kimmy, I'd agree with Cynthia. The leg looks fine, though if you notice that it starts to swell a lot, I'd be more concerned. It just appears bruised right now.

So, are we still doing a support group for Chickens Anonymous? Because I have a confession to make. I'm weak. I'm very, very weak and slightly greedy. I had no willpower today and got a BO chick. Ohhh, she is so precious! She's very friendly - I hope she doesn't lose that quality as she ages.

Also, I found out which chick has the especially bloody poo. It's my gray EE baby

I was out cleaning the brooder tonight and saw her do a squat, and out came the blood. That's the third one I've seen today, and I'm getting more worried. I'm debating on setting up a chick ICU and possibly taking her off of the medicated chick starter they're all eating. She kind of acted like she was hurting when I picked her up to put her back in the brooder afterward. I'm hoping that this is something that will clear up on its own, but you never know. Any advice?

And about that EE, very scary, would it be an internal injury of sorts? Hoping that clears up asap....I was just looking at that pic and thinking how totally sweet she looks, the colors, and those muffs! She is a very beautiful girl. She needs to get better!

i would give her a pro-biotic such as plain yogurt. and i would take her off the medicated feed. medicines can be very hard on birds and every bird is different. i know with one of my parrots that had to be on baytril it was like a blood bath but the pro-biotic cleared it up. it was very scary for sure. you can also get pro-biotic powder that is meant for birds, but yogurt is great and cheaper

Thanks Lisa. I hope it's not an internal injury, and I can't imagine how she would have gotten hurt. I make sure to be very gentle when handling my babies, and I'm the only one who has any contact with them.

I just did a quick search on chicks pooping blood on the forum, and it sounds like maybe she could be having a problem with coccidiosis (did I spell that right?) I am going to leave her on the medicated feed, since it's supposed to help with that, but I think I'll try and get some electrolytes to put in their water for a little bit. And possibly a stronger dose of medication for her. The problem is, I can't get to the store until Monday, but since this problem only started today, I'm hoping she will make it okay. Poor girl.

And of course I will get a picture of the BO! She is very delicate. I love looking in the brooder to see a blondie running around.
