And the treats to give them congrats.I just checked the raffle winners list from chickenstock (it's on the chickenstock thread)--looks like I won some hatching eggs for Lemon Orpingtons! Ack! Now I have to build ANOTHER coop!!!![]()
How old is that chick? I would try doing the black electical tape on it. Although, it does look older from what I can see..may not work now. Chickens walk around just fine with "ugly" toes. lol..It does walk ok doesn't it? That's all that counts, but, if it isn't walking well, that is a different story. Sorry.Hi my friends![]()
I missed you guys today! Donna----no chickens on your list, sorry! Actually there were not hardly any chickens for sale....i was really glad I went, to meet people, but the chickens were mostly pre-arranged sales and not much shopping. LOVED riding with Sasha, we talked about everything under the sun, it was tons of fun. We had a nice Cinco de mayo lunch with my son. The Blue wheatens are beautiful!!! Love the birds...Cindy's is definitely the most gorgeous....Sasha and I both loved that one...it is a Splash Blue Wheaten. I wanted it....but I had committed to taking the older ones so I did...Red's little chicks are ADORABLE teeny little cute babies. Pretty sure there is one of each. Only one girlish left in the three to choose from, i am pretty sure the other one may be a boy. But you never know! Had the best visit at Slvrphoenix and blujems house. Cute baby goats, way smaller than I thought, I got to feed one a bottle, how fun was that! And got to visit with my good friendsLoved it. Will post a pic of that when I can get it off my phone. Seemed like there were goats everywhere. And chickens lol. That is one of the sweetest families I have ever met. Always love visiting out there, they just really need to throw me out when I stay so long!![]()
Birdguy is awesome. Big family, he now has my lav roo Fonzie, and many leftover 4-h chicks. The 4 h kids had a great turnout, just not as much chicken swapping as we had hoped. A few of the fun breeders could not come, so maybe next year! We met rfunnyfarm too, she was supernice.
Here is the bummer. Sasha came over to my house afterward, we got her chicks loaded (2 hatched today total, still 4 eggs in bator, one chirping) I dusted the two new pullets. Took them out of the box and guess what? One has completely curled in toes. It walks really low to the ground and hobbles around. It's feet are really wrong---when we picked them up they were all four together (My 2, Sasha's and Cindy's) and they looked so pretty, but I never noticed the feet. They were in a kennel and this one was sitting on the floor so it just never occurred to me to look at the feet. I am bummed out about it because the last thing I wanted was to buy one that would need to be put down....it will never be able to run or get away from the bigger girls so I do not know how to ever introduce it to the flock....
What do you guys make of this? Seller is from Montana--pretty hard to return it. They come from the most beautiful blue eggs, and the hatching eggs I picked up are really nice. I am torn--I was so excited, and now I am so bummed outCould this be an injury from transporting ? I was thinking this is a birth defect, but tell me what you know!![]()

Sounds like you had a blast. It's always fun to meet new people. I still say, since I started raising chickens, that I have met the best folks ever!
Lisa-- You can coban that chicks legs (wrap them so it supports the joint) and you can try making splints for the toes with pipe cleaners and tape wrapped around. It is a big pain in the butt, and I've only had it help once. However, you saw my son's bird "Gimpy". She gets around just fine, lays a nice light blue egg and seems to be Second-In-Command in the coop (though the Andalusians are trying to stage a coup). Might be worth a try...
The boys will be very happy we won something in the raffle--I never win ANYTHING! Not sure what i will do with Lemon Orpington eggs, though. Sounds very intriguing, but I really would have to build yet another coop. Maybe I will try to hatch them out and sell most of them? Keep one or two? I dunno!!! Sheesh, I am such a hatchaholic, I'll probably end up just adding yet another chicken variety so I can breed them!![]()
Sphinx-- I hope your late hatcher is doing okay! I tried to look on the web cam, but, as you said, it ain't showing anything, dagnabit! You'll have to update us on Monday.
I hope they have another Chickenstock next year--if I plan it better, I can request that time off and take a bunch of chicks up to sell/trade/bribe with!
