Hi! My first post on BYC. I live in Davis County and I am looking for a frizzle bantam cochin. Does anyone know where I might find one? I am willing to drive a ways to get her. If you know someone who has them or have any suggestions as to where to go I would really appreciate it. Thanks :)
Welcome! I bought 3 red cochin bantam frizzles from the IFA in Ogden. You could try there. It's been 5 weeks but maybe they could still order them in? (They did for me! ) 2 of the 3 did frizzle, but one was a roo and I did sell him. Sweet with people, not so sweet with my EE roo who was twice his size! But he has a loving home without any other roos in it.

A couple of questions, where do you get your feed in Utah? I've been using IFA brand and I'm wondering if there are better quality and/or organic options locally?
Another question, do you clip wings? If so do you do 1 or both? Our Welsummer keeps getting out of the run, which isn't a huge deal now but will be later when the garden is really going.

We buy bulk feed at Leland Mills in Spanish Fork. They load the containers (garbage cans or 55 gal drums) right in the truck, and you pay by the 100# so its less expensive. They grind fresh, and its 18% layer mash, no additives.

Four are Ameraucanas, four (hopefully) olive eggers from BCM/Amer cross, and 19 EE's from SLW, BO, Australorps, green laying EE's, and Salmon Favs - they have 5 toes. I almost doubled my flock in one day! And one of the longest days of my life. I knew I would be anxious - but not THAT anxious. Everything that pipped lived. One was breach, and I helped, which I swore I would not do. It started out with curled toes, but I put it on an egg carton to "exercise" and in the morning it was ok. I don't know how you do it time after time! I have appreciation for you experienced hatchers. Still waiting for my blood pressure to return to normal and loaded it up again. June 1st hatch anyone?

I want to see pics of these curtains you're talking about.

Ann

I had a pretty good day. Howard took me to breakfast at IHOP (this IHOP in Logan seems to be inferior to all the others I've eaten at...maybe it was just an off day?) Then he took me to Bath & Body Works and I bought a bunch of (good) smelly stuff, the to Lowe's for a couple new things for the house. We had to get home after that so he could pack for his camping trip this weekend (Priesthood camp out). So my aunt Darlene and cousin Janay stole me for the rest of the day. We went and saw The Avengers (SO good!) and ate at Costa Vida. Went to Willow Park with a bunch of family, then back to my aunt's house for a bonfire and cake.

To keep this somewhat chicken related, my little crele wyandotte roo has continual pasty bum. I'm having to clean his rear 3-4 times a day. I have apple cider vinegar in his water. Any ideas as to how I can help him clear this up?
BTW, I decided to name him "Clay". After Clay Matthews, a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. (Yep, I'm a cheesehead) I've never seen such a round, stout little chick! lol

Welcome, Happy2Bhere! No idea on your bantam, sorry.

Feed: I get it either from Peterson Feed in Clearfield/Layton, or I get it from Sunnybrooke farm in Sandy. Christie has a great all seed mix that I love. It's also only $13 or so for a 50 lbs bag. I'm on her mailing list, and when she announces it, if I can, I get down there and buy 100 lbs or so. She says it's for chicks 8 weeks and up though, and since I'm in chickland, I've just gotten chick starter in 50 lbs bags from Peterson. Corvidae, I'm pretty sure they have organic feed there too- I know they did last summer. Considering your location though, Salt Lake may be closer.

Cynthia, those are great prize eggs!! So what will your voice therapy consist of doing? I'm very curious. Those roses are very pretty. What kind of camera did you get?

I don't clip my birds' wings, but their run is enclosed over the top, and they only free range when I'm supervising, so it hadn't been an issue.

Sasha, sounds like you had a great birthday, except for the inferior IHOP.

Ann, love the babies!

My robin's nest is up to four eggs. I also think I will be able to put a webcam out there. I ordered an extension for the USB, so I think I can run it. We'll see. I love this picture so much that I'm contemplating changing my AV picture, even though I still giggle a bit at my current one.

I took my BLRW home today. I thought about selling 4 of them, and keeping three and hoping all three were girls. But I just can't narrow it down. I do love Fred, the last to hatch. But I'm having trouble deciding who to give up. Here's a picture I took of them today while I was cleaning out the tank. (Fred is third from the left, kind of dead center, and very dark colored. I think Fred is a girl)

Hey, thanks for the welcome everyone. Sasha, thank you for the info on the frizzle chicks at IFA. Hopefully they have some. I was hoping to get one that is a hen because I live in town and I can't have very many chickens and definitely NOT a rooster. Sounds like the trick is to buy a few and take the pick of the group. Hopefully I don't end up with all frizzle roosters and one non-frizzle hen. Hmmm, chicken gambling. Might be addictive. :)

Birthday girl yesterday? And I missed out on the party!! Well, hope you had a fun day!! And, by the way, I have an Aunt, that looves, looves, purple. To the extermes. She is in her late 60's, and has gone to wearing something purple since she was in her 50's..or earlier..I just can't remember her not wearing purple. Pretty cute. Love my Auntie.
Your Priesthood camp out is this weekend? Ours is in June. We are hoping our son can get that day off from work, it will probably be the last camp out that he will have with his dad for two years..or longer..he is leaving for his mission this year. Just finishing up paper work. We should know soon where he is going!!

Ok, basty bum, I don't give them anything for it..I just clip around the vent to make sure it doesn't have a lot of fur for the poo to get stuck on, then you just have to wait it out most of the time. Keep cleaning until their little symptoms say ok, I'll accept food better now. I only give the medicated food to them for a couple of days. Then to the reg. chick food. That's me. Not everyone believes in the med. food. I just use it a while, then done with it. But like I said, if you keep having to clean it's bum..a clipped bum is easier to clean.

I'm only behind the times on here....lots! lol...

Addictive? Did I read the word addictive>>nope, none of us like that around here! Good luck on finding that fizzle. They are cute. I had one that I gave to my friend, was a little cockerel...can't have roos..so, she had been getting some pretty cute frizzles from her white boy.
Here's one of my favorite chicken pictures. He's a big boy now.
