My heart is breaking and I'm beginning to wonder if I can hack it being a chicken mom. I just discovered my little barred rock Wyandotte bantam, dead in her brooder. There wasn't any signs of distress at all, I never saw it coming. The little crele roo was nuzzling her trying to wake her and then just cuddled up next to her. Now he's all alone and is going to cry, probably for days. WTH? I don't get it. She wasn't flourishing like Clay (the crele roo) was, and he was almost twice her size now. But I've seen her eat and drink. Does this happen often? Is it like SIDS in human babies? Why is it that I was able to successfully raise freaking IFA chicks and not have any deaths and I've had so many problems with these poor little crele wyandotte bantams? ![]()
That is so sad! Poor baby. Poor Mom. Sometimes these things just happen, don't be so hard on yourself and try not to be sad. Hopefully you will get some cute wyandotte babies here in a week and a half when your eggs hatch to keep the little guy company. Hugs to you hon!
