Phoenix--nice boys! They are getting big fast! Cynthia---NOT speaking to you, the bator envy is too much I cant take it anymore.:p (jk)

We have another fun milestone tonight, after the grandbaby came, it was senior prom tonight. So here is my cute girl all wuzzied up!

And of course, you guys know me, I had to give these two poor kids a hard time about the car he picked her up in. Hope he forgives me. I love to tease :)

She really is too cute :D Good thing because she is full of that teenage attitude.

Better be home by midnight or ELSE~~!

Lisa, your daughter is so beautiful.

Phoenix, nice looking boys.

Whittni, love your flock. Great looking birds.

Cynthia, I'm having incubator envy too.

I'm feeling a little unsettled and unhappy tonight. I'm sure you guys can talk me down. At this point, I've gotten rid of a total of 9 roosters. I felt like all of them were going to great homes. I know that Red intends to eat at least 2 of the 3 roosters I gave her, but I completely trust her to treat them well. Tonight I had someone text me, wanting the last BLRW rooster (I'm still saving one for you, ilovemyduckies, if you want him). I agreed. For some reason, I didn't want to have him come to my place, so I offered to drop him off on my way out tonight. Got to his place, and it was a couple of young men. They admitted they were planning to eat him, which I genuinely am ok with, as long as they're humane. Well, the first guy took him from me, and handled him nicely. Then handed the cockerel off to his friend so he could pay me. The friend started taking him to the house. When they were most of the way there, the cockerel started making a pretty terrible noise. I couldn't see what the guy was doing to make it make that noise, so it could've just been panic, I don't know. He'd been really docile up to that point, so it was extremely upsetting to me. my kids were in the car, and they were shaken as well. I've been feeling kind of awful ever since, like my spidey senses are saying maybe things didn't go down as humanely as I was hoping for.

Have you guys ever had anything similar?

Oh Lisa, she is beautiful! Love that dress! And cute idea with the hair! And, what's wrong with the car?? Ey? LOL...it works doesn't it?

Shinx, sorry that had to happen that way..maybe he was just handling it differently, I can't imagine he would start culling it in front of you and the kids. Did the kids hear the chicken? That's too bad. I don't have roosters, but have sold cockerels that I know are going for food on the table.

We were teasing him about the golden mini limo lol it was a grandma's car :) You could tell this boy was feeling pretty fancy taking it to the dance. I was trying to get her to do an 'updo' with her hair, she would not go for it----the blue ends have been that way for awhile, some fad thing the girls are into, but it worked out with a blue dress lol good thing it wasn't orange or hot pink! 18 minutes til she better be home....... ETA--she made it home at 11:49. Good girl!

Sphinx---I sold two chicks and the two very young men that came had me pretty worried. They kept asking me for reassurance they would get nice and big...It is so hard because you feel responsible to see it through a humane processing if that is what is going to happen....I totally understand your feelings of 'did I do the right thing'.....the roosters are tough. However the worst one for me was the family that came to pick up three chicks and it was 3 super rowdy really spoiled acting kids, the parents told them to pick out what they want, they had no lamp, thought they could feed them lettuce, and keep them in a shoe box. The kids dropped the poor chicks and I kept showing them how to hold them, they were running wild through my place, the parents clearly did not care, it was just a madhouse while they were here. I gave them as much information as I could but I could see they were not listening at all. I thought to myself those chicks will be dead or injured by the end of the week....it made my heart hurt. I wanted to tell them I changed my mind.

Lisa, I've had that happen a couple of times at my place. I finally got to the point where I just said to the kids..you can't hold them, they are still just tiny.
I ask them on the phone when they call about them, if they have everything set up, if they have heat lamps. Of course, they could say they do, and don't really. We can only do what we can. We never know. It is sad. I really don't like them calling me back and telling me the bad news. Doesn't happen often, but once in a while. I just have to say I'm sorry. Try to explain what I thought it could have been. Poor chicks, I do my best to make sure folks know how to take care of them before they take them. I know often times, they have not made sure the chicks are drinking, so I tell them that they need water...lots of water..and how to get some of the slow pokes to start, by dipping their beaks in the water. Anyway....................................................
LOL...is she home yet?? It's getting closer!

Yep, good thing her hair was blue tinted.. :p It's long! I bet it's real long when not curled.

I thought that was a pretty nice car he had there. Fancy fun. Have those two known each other quite a while? You have a Senior too. Wow, where does the time go ey?

Yes she made it home safe and sound. She is the Junior, he is the Senior actually---don't know each other well at all, she really was hesitant to go, he asked her and her friends goaded her for a bit until she agreed. Pretty shy girl, hates dances mostly, but he seemed harmless enough, and she did not want to be the reason he could not go. He was very sweet, a gentleman :) Tall kid! Very tall. But they do not like each other that way, just a friend of a buddy. Am glad she got to go, do the dress up, pictures, all that. Hope she goes next year when it is her turn to be a Senior. I had as much fun as she did I think! When she got home, I asked how was it? She said Whew! Its done! Got straight back to sweats....and I have to tell ya she wore converse sneakers under that dress. Pretty funny :D But her feet did not hurt when she was done so I think she is pretty smart! You're right, that time flies by.....our 27 yr old became a daddy and our baby girl is all grown up. Wow!

Glad she got home ok. I know what you mean about the getting as excited as they do. She will want to go to the Senior Prom next year since she is a senior then..I would think. Most girls want to.
That was nice of her to go with him. I know my son goes on some dances that he really isn't sure about going on..like this last chance dance last week. He just went to the Senior Ball tonight. Had the Senior Prom a while back. He loved tonight..danced a lot..some girls won't dance that much. He likes to dance.
He graduates next Wed. Happy but sad, sad, but happy. My baby. He's happy, I'm the sad one.
Have a good night!!

Oh man you have graduation coming up, a big exciting time! You will have to get a pic up of that handsome boy. This is it for you mom, last one....out of school. Going to have to hatch a dang lot of chicks to keep you busy :) Good thing for your new bator! Good timing. Oh the fun of watching these little ones grow up! Kids AND chicks ;) At least the chicks don't sass too much, thank goodness for that. AND a lot less worry. Raising kids these days with all the crazy things that go on is like walking in a minefield.

You have a good night too! Now I can rest :) Best wishes for a fun graduation coming up!

Great prom photos!

So I posted a thread...I thought on here but it's not showing, so here it is. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/666980/surpise-chicky

Dora's doing well this morning after an ER call to Cynthia yesterday as I had no clue what to do. Mom had started pecking her head once she started moving under her so we got chicky out quick and called the doc of chicks.

She came fm a light brown egg but she looks pretty much like all EE chicks, that chipmunk look. I swear her cheeks are puffier this morning, not sure if that comes in later or they are born with?

Anyway, I'm praying I get at least one more chick out of those eggs for a friend for her! We gave her a canadian goose beanie baby to help lol. I'll post more pics later but it's hard, she keeps trying to follow me. too cute!
