Utah!

I have to say, my favorite time of day is letting the girls out of the coop in the morning. They come running out flapping their wings and running a loop around the run. It is like they have been cooped up for years. It is very comical.

Do you people ever sleep? good heavens, it is going to take awhile to go through all these posts.

My neighbor gets weird eggs from one of her hens like that all the time. I got quite a few really wacky eggs from my hens. It was kind of fun.

I'm giggling over the dh thinking that he has to prove himself useful to stick around.

I'd love to participate in Tour De Coop, but I don't live in the right area, and I don't want to pay the admission fee. It sure looks like fun though.

Best of luck selling your cheap chicks, you got pullets right? If not I kinda see why people might not bite.
Sandhill only does straight run. I think I'm going to have to wait until I can sex them to sell them. I know a great farmer who will take my cockerels, which is a huge relief for me.

Thank you for the info. I couldn't get #1 to work, but I posted #2 on my FB page. You have to create an account but it's not complicated.

Just wanting to spread the word to other Utah people to help get in signatures & comments before the deadlines on the issue below:

In poultry slaughterhouses, the USDA is considering allowing production lines to be sped up and decreasing the number of assigned USDA inspectors and their amount of "on-line" monitoring. The USDA is offering slaughter companies permission to largely just self-inspect most areas. This could have the potential to build problems in a number of areas, including food safety, bird welfare, and worker welfare.

The USDA is requesting public input on the issues, & I think us poultry-keepers should take part in the discussion!

Here is a thread I've starte about it:
MAY 29 deadline to tell USDA to keep monitoring poultry slaughterhouses--PLEASE SIGN ONLINE!

Two of my eggs have pipped!!!

The olive egg, that I never could see into, and just hoped was growing.

And the brown egg, that's a barnvelder, or lakenvelder or welsummer (I can't remember what Suzie told me).

The coronation sussex hasn't pipped yet, but 21 days doesn't hit til 3 or 4 today.

Looks like the two red and white are red comets

Never heared of that. But i am bran new to chickens. Still learning. Im interested in a sizzle if they do hatch for you. Im also looking for a Easter EE or something that lays blue or green. We can have 6 chickens no roosters. I also have no idea how old these guys are either. They were given to us as older chicks.

kidasoto, those are beautiful birds! I love the coop, too. Very cute! I would think that you have a BO, two Red Sex-link's (Comets) and a RIR. I want to say that they look like they're around the 4 month mark, age-wise, but I could be wrong. They seem similar to my girls who are about that age.

Alas, Lisa, I should not have said anything about the Delawares. Bah. I guess if you get one, I'll have to live vicariously through you for a little while. Yes, that's the Dellie I had in my avatar. Boy I sure miss her. You wouldn't think you could get so attached to an animal that you only had for a few months, but I did.

Sphinx, congrats on the pips! That's awesome!

Those look like golden or red sex links. Also known as comets or cinnamon queens. The second one especially looks like a golden sex link., the first one a red sex link IMO. I would guess they were born in early March :) I have some born end of Feb and mid March and yours look right in between mine. I will have EE hatching 1st of July (hopefully!) if you are interested.

Congrats on those pips sphinx! You got your web cam up? Same to you on the EE's if you want any in July. I know you like those :)
