Utah!

Happy, I've seen a couple of her cats..well, one was a kitten, the other a mama, that took in other kitties..the mom was so sweet. They act like a cat, they are a cat. Just not much hair! The kitten wanted to snuggle down, but I was holding it up and looking it over pretty good. The white one in the picture is the mama I was talking about, very calm cat.

Gots to go! I hear yet another baby has hatched! They started last night. I have three of the leghorn mixes out, one of the green EE eggs out, it's a blue, and one paint silkie out. Now, this one that was zipping is out, I can hear it screaming for mom...it's from another green egg. Going to get it and put it into the brooder..will see what color this one is. This is the new bator..so many more are pipped!

What was your old one and what was your new one?

I went to IFA to get food before I catch my plane. they have a bunch of new chicks, They were a big surprise as they were not ordered. Pretty funny they have a nice selection. they told me they had sold 22000 chicks this year. I wonder how many of those died. What feeders do you find work the best for the new babies

Hmmm.... I think I can see a new business here. Bator sitting for chicken lovers who travel. Of course I would get the pick of the litter

Bator sitter is almost what I had to have today. My son would be home until 1:00. My voice therapy was for today. I called. I cancelled. No way I was going to leave when so much was happening! When a chick hatches in this bator, the humidity will shoot up just like the others, but, this one will hold it..too much humidity for the others, so you just go in, take out the chick, and the humidity will drop again. So, I wanted to be here for them.
All of the EE's are out but two, and one is zipping.
I went ahead and helped a couple of Silkies. When they stay pipped, in the same spot for a long time, not a good thing. Some Silkies have very high vaults. Sure enough! Man, my lavender had a real high vault, and one of the blacks. I am so glad I went in to check them out. I just opened it to their beaks, let them hang out for a while, then, just went in when I could see the yolk was absorbed. Didn't take long, they were pretty much ready. Those high vaulted heads make it almost impossible for them to turn. They had just stayed right where they pipped, all day. I finally went in. They will be fine. :) Very pretty colors from what I can tell. I'm hoping the black will stay the real black color, and not the washed out black. These are from one of the best known Silkie breeders on here. catdance. I'm excited to see how they look all fluffed up
Those EE's from the white eggs are a real neat color. They have a tint of lavender in them, and have some black on them here and there. The person I bought the eggs from said they would have a tint and some spots. Lisa, there is a big Bubba Already! Always is one. Very puffy around the head and face. It was the first to hatch last night. I will post pictures later. I want my Silkies dry. I only got one NH out of the two. Wonder what his look like, will have to go see. :p

I like the regular round ones, with a lot of spots for the chicks to eat from. I really don't like the long red ones! They are a mess.
For the water, I like to use the small rim one, then go to the wider rimmed one when they are a couple of days old.

Jesusfreak, you missed out on my last EE's! These are going to be nice. I have blue EE's, and one black EE. The other EE's are the Ameraucana/leghorn mix. I thought you had said you wanted some. :))

Hi, my Utah friends. I should probably introduce myself every time I post since it is so irregular that I do!

I'm Jessica. We have 6 chickies that are about 7 weeks old; I'm not quite sure. I don't know what they are but am kind of suspecting that three of them are roos. We live in Pleasant Grove and can't have roosters so I'm trying to figure that out today. We're also working on building them a coop. It's all a fun adventure!

Wynari! How big is your coop going to be? It'll be a great adventure for you.

Cynthia, I'm dying to see pictures of your new babies, especially the lavender leghorns.

Lisa, NOOOOOOOOO on both of the Icelandics being boys. NOT POSSIBLE!!!

I went to Peterson Feed today to get some bigger feeders. The evil temptress there laughed when she saw me and told me to check out the chicks. They were "coop ready pullets". $10. They were the same bunch of chicks from last week, but it looked like it was primarily golden laced wyandottes, and something else. Maybe a welsummer or something? I told her to get thee hence, Satan, to which she cracked up.

My kids tried to talk me into buying goats and bunnies, but we left the store with only the items I planned on buying.

I would like to make a chicken tractor. That's the plan, at least. One that can handle up to 6 chickens. My husband has plans in his head and I'm pretty sure they're not exactly like the plan I have in my head. :) But as long as he's excited about building it, I'm happy.

There are tons of tractor and stationary coops photos and plans here on BYC.
