there were no problems, they were laying there before, so they didn't stop laying there, just stopped sleeping in there. You should have no problems.

ok folks question? My eggs are due to hatch on Sunday, Can you tell me when I can expect pips and when I'll be able to hear the chicks in the eggs. I am so excited and hope at least some of them hatch
I looked back in my records. I almost never hear the chicks peeping, but that could be because I have a bunch of rowdy kids.

With my last hatch, two of the eggs pipped halfway through day 20. The third pipped right about the start of day 21. The first hatched about 1 hour into day 21. The second hatched about 8 hours into day 21. The last hatched a couple hours into day 22.

The hatch before that, I set around 2pm on a Thursday. Three weeks later, on a Thursday morning, I went in at 8am, and found that one of the chicks had hatched (no pips when we'd left school at 4pm the day before). One other chick pipped.

at 3:30 that thursday (so 1.5 hours into day 21), the second chick hatched. By Friday morning, all had pipped. By Friday at 2pm (the start of day 22), all but one had hatched. The last chick hatched Saturday morning, so about halfway through day 22.

So, basically, to sum up, I've noticed that I start seeing pips about halfway through day 20. The majority of the hatching happens on the 21st day.

So, if you set your eggs at 4pm Sunday, I would expect most of your excitement to happen Sunday evening.

Your mileage may vary though.

Question:

I am in process of building our first coop (5"L x 3'W x 3'T).. I building it all out of 2x4's.. but because of budget constraints, I am having to use OSB for the walls and roof. I am going to shingle the roof. But I am concerned about the walls. How long do you think I will be able to go without adding siding to the coop? Can i put a good coat of exterior paint on the outside walls? Do you think that will last?

I am open to suggestions. Or if anyone has some other materials they could maybe donate to me to cover the outside.. ( i know that is asking a lot.)

I painted the roof and walls of my coops with a product called restore. It is for waterproofing decks and concrete has a 10 year guarantee at home depot, Much lighter on the roofs than shingles and tarpaper

Sundance......if mine are set to hatch I can put my ear on the bator and often hear tapping or cheeping about 1/2 day before I see pips. You have to listen very closely, sometimes tap the bator and the chickie taps back on the shell.

So you should be putting them in lockdown today.....3 days before hatching. I would guess Saturday night you may hear somethings going on in there, if not by Sunday morning for sure :)

We painted a heavy coat on ours, no siding, it weathered great through winter, just touched it up again in the spring. I painted the white trim really good again, it seemed to have more knicks and peels. I think if you keep it painted well it should last pretty long.

Quote did not work right, hope you get this :)

Ugh, I am so stinking mad right now. I just found out that someone stole my truck while I was at work. I had lumber, a nail gun, and an air compressor loaded in the back, too. That stuff was for building another chick run! Some people make me so mad

You have had a crazy day!!! Jeff told me that your truck was stolen... Sorry that happened, and thanks so much for still taking the time to do chick delivery=)

Last post sorry. Red---hope they catch the &^%#!@ that took your truck and throw the book at them. I think stealing is rotten.....I am so sorry for you. Hope the cops find them fast and your stuff is still in tact.
