Utah!

Lisa, I can't judge you for taking a chicken camping because I took 5 chicks camping once. My only caveat is that if she's laying, it may put her off.

She is such an egg machine I think she should be ok..the other day she was going up the patio stairs and just stopped for about 5 seconds and dropped her egg right there on the stairs then kept going up to the top. SHe is like "wup, excuse me for s second...." ok carry on! haha. No way would any of the others be like that :D I remember you taking those colored chicks camping right? So funny lol!

Sad day for me. This morning one of our silkies did his first attempt at a crow.

These chickens are our pets and we live in the city so we can't keep him. I am so worried about trying to rehome him and have him go somewhere bad.
This has recently happened to us as well with one of our two silkies. I am so sad about it. I have heard that some hens crow, so if I can get away with it I am going to try to keep it until they start laying. Also, I heard that IFA does an "adopt a rooster" so that might be an option if you don't know any one who wants it.
I know how you feel!! Such a bummer~!

You know, I had a great grandmother who would emit bodily noises right in front of people without batting an eye or excusing herself. Kind of reminds me of her

Lisa, you might be a bad influence, but I must be easily influenced! Well, at least when I set my mind to it. I'm definitely interested in some of those BR babies! I've got a neighbor that wants to rebuild his flock, but he doesn't want to deal with the hassle of baby chicks. I think I'll hit him up and see if he's interested in a few if I raise them for the first couple of months. I'll let you know, ya?

Heeey, what? Don't look at me like that, you guys. I've been good at saying no to getting more chicks for the last little while. Good behavior needs rewarding, right? (I sense an impending rooster "reward" from Sphinx)

Edit: Has anyone talked to corvidae of late? I wonder how she's doing. I hope they were able to get that Chicken Plague figured out

She has clothes....and a leash. And she loves to take walks....

Awww! I wanna see chicken clothes! I made some aprons and hubby was so embarrassed! He'd show the guys his processing station and they'd do a double take looking at the 'dressed' hens - like HE was nuts :D. Then the neighborhood kids came over to learn how to process in preparation for a survival camp - those boys really teased him!

Red, are you wanting a gift rooster? LOL

I've been thinking about Corvidae. I know she has property somewhere in Duchesne, and I know there's been fires there. Hoping her birds are ok.

Violet's wardrobe:

Skull with hearts apron

Pink hearts apron and diaper

Bandana apron and diaper

All from Louise's country closet. They are so cute ! Next time I take her out I will get a pic. It is too hot today to mess with all that lol

No and I feel so bad with her losing all those birds. I saw that fire in Southern Dushesne and wondered if it is by her.....hope not! Have not seen Hector around forever either "Chiko where are you?" Cynthia, is all ok with him and his family?

Red, I will give you first dibs on as many as you want from the hatch. Hoping the rest make it! Birdguy---sorry to say not many left on the Giants. Hoping a couple at least! I need an excuse to see that barn. Then there are the EE's. I will keep those a bit and grow them to see what is there...I will be interested to see what comes out. Might pick a cute one for myself....I want to see what those mustard eggs turn out....I really hope they make it. So far I have not had good luck with giant eggs like that. The air cells are remarkably on time so far.

Moriah, that's too funny. I'll bet he got some gooooood looks, haha. My mom actually remarked yesterday about how we need chickens in the house to catch the spiders and beetles that sneak in. I told her, "Well, some people do that. They just wear a diaper while they're inside." She thought it was great.

Lisa, I love Violet's wardrobe! Particularly that skull and crossbones apron.

Casa de Pollo you are awesome! I love your stories about Violet and her many talents. If you do take her camping please be sure to let us know how she does (Do chickens like toasted marshmallows?) and post some pictures.
I have some questions about the diapers. How do they work? Do you have to put something inside to catch the *ahem* chicken indiscretions, or do you just wash them every time you use them? Also, how do you keep her little bum clean?
