   Casa de Pollo you are awesome!  I love your stories about Violet and her many talents.   If you do take her camping please be sure to let us know how she does   (Do chickens like toasted marshmallows?) and post some pictures. 
   I have some questions about the diapers.  How do they work?  Do you have to put something inside to catch the *ahem* chicken indiscretions, or do you just wash them every time you use them?   Also, how do you keep her little bum clean?

They have little pouches that fit inside, little white ones that are plasticky and wash up really easy. I like to use them on Vi because her stools are pretty firm, if it is one who has runny squirty stools it is gross. And her bum stays pretty clean , the droppings just drop, that is about it! I have bathed her, just a few times, but then she goes straight to the dust bath so that has been discouraging to try and keep her really clean. I do not like to take her in the car without a box, or anything, because I worry about critters, I use DE lots and like to think they do not have mites but I am sure there is always little no see-ums hiding in their down feathers. And I do not bring her in the house, anymore...

And if I can get her to ring that bell on a string I am going to post it on youtube. Been trying soooo hard! She thinks about it, but does not completely get the concept yet. Wouldn't it be something if I could do it!

Daloorashens, there's a total of five BLRW. I believe that there's at least two pullets in the group. However, I'm making whoever buys them take all 5. $15 for the bunch. (I don't want to try and rehome just the cockerels, so I'm making it a package deal). All five appear to be the black variety of blrw. Here's one of the obvious boys. He's way bigger than the others. You can see one of the pullets and then my SS in the background.

And one that I think is a pullet. The wattles are big, but nothing like the cockerel.


Lisa, I can't judge you for taking a chicken camping because I took 5 chicks camping once. My only caveat is that if she's laying, it may put her off.

Lisa...Violet's wardrobe is TOO FUNNY!!! The tears are still streaming!! Sorry about all those eggs going bad, what a bummer, especially the BJG's...How long is the drive to Paul from your place??

Red... I have to chime in on the temptation... I have BR cockerel... He's about 8 weeks old... Nice sized bird, I think he's going to be a good-sized rooster. A little on the flighty side, but totally settles down once you start petting him, my kids love petting his waddles "they're soo soft". I would give him to you for the chicken shuttle and because I know he would have a good home with you or your neighbor...

Oh yeah... corvidea lost all those birds... hope that got figured out!!

Hey thanks everyone for all of the kinds words today. It is sure nice to have good people to give me encouragement. I guess I shouldn't get so attached to the little guys but if you don't love them then what is the point?

If anyone hears of a good home for a silkie rooster would you let me know? Actually, it may end up being two. My favorite one (of course) sure looks a lot like the one that crowed today. Charmin is about the same size, feathering and build, so I am thinking he(?) may be sounding a lot like a wet trumpet one of these mornings. I hope not

. I am so surprised that Sprout crowed this morning because I think he is somwhere between 8 and 10 weeks old. Isn't that a little young?

BTW How do your showgirls eggs look, any luck with the last three? If Sasha stops for the welsummer and exchequer, and you do end up with an extra showgirl I am still on board with that

What kind of eggs are you getting from your contest--I can't remember if you mentioned it?

38 posts you guys..really? I wasn't gone that long was I? he he...Dr. says, my neck is good, we have been working on getting an MRI on my back. Have to go through other things first..crazy ins. co. don't realize they spend less money if they just go ahead and do the MRI instead of having me, go get x-rays, go to therapy, and take some anti-inflamatory first, to see if anything looks wrong, or if the therapy doesn't help. ?????? Wouldn't all of that add up to more than an MRI? I know they are expensive, but after going to have all of this other done..ugh, what a hassle, but I do need to know what's up with my back. Plus, I'm sitting there, and just point out my left foot to him. I have been limping around for around 5 days. He looks at it without even leaning over and says, that's bruised and swollen. Go get that x-rayed! lol...so, went to get my back and my foot ex-rayed. I honestly think my foot is just sprained, I don't even know how I did it. It just started hurting. Maybe when I was chasing a chicken around.

Lisa..I just got a message from the gal that is sending me the eggs. I had a choice, Olive eggers, or the D'Uclles..I prefer Olive Eggers, true Olive Eggers. Her eggs look really olive color. There's that green I'm been looking for!!

I just candled them before I posted this since I saw your post. They go into lock down on the 1st, hatch day is on the 4th. Air sacs look good. Cross your fingers!

Sasha! You can get a Welsummer from me.. if you still want it..the original one that I was going to let go. I got one back from a friend that I had given a couple to. We are pretty sure that she will be keeping a girl also. So, if you still want her, let me know!

Hey utahns. I'm back again with another random post.
For those weirdos like me who will take their birds to the vet, I'd like to rave about Parrish Creek clinic in Centerville. I am going through a major ordeal to correct my goose who hatched out crippled. After Laurel Harris at wasatch exotic refused to treat my girl, instead insisting that euthanasia was the only thing I could do, I took my goose to Parrish. Dr. Echols was so very wonderful in helping and we have begun corrective treatment with good success so far. Dr. Folland is also my hero for his continued treatment on my goose. Both are certified avian specialists and Folland has 24 pet chickens himself.
Just wanted to spread the word about how great this clinic is.

i hope i did not offend any of you with my post. just knowing these vets from my work with parrot rescue i see things from all sides and honestly those vets you listed iain utah are by far the best in the state. you should see some of the other vets

i just hope everyone can see things from a different side of things. 80% of avian vets do not treat poultry

I don't ever see you offending anyone! If anything, you are quite knowledgeable in so many different areas with birds. I watch what ya say for sure!

In fact, I have some Chard planted out in my garden area this year because of you. It is looking like something chickens would like alright!

Cynthia, glad you got goodish news from the doctor. Sorry that you can't just go get the MRI. Did they give you results on the ankle xray? While we were in Yellowstone hiking around Old Faithful, my 13 year old started complaining that her ankle hurt. It was swelling, and stayed swollen, painful and bruised looking the rest of the trip. She didn't remember injuring it at all. She was really disappointed that it made her miss some of the other hikes, particularly around the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. When she saw the pictures I took, she about died. Here's one of the views that she had to miss. :-(

So I candled my eggs after posting........these are doing so bad. I had 12 each BJG, EE, and BR. I now have 3 BJG, 5 EE, and 9 BR. The BR are doing great. They were the eggs in the most center of the box. The BJG were the ones that were damaged, so it makes sense they did not do so well. And the EE eggs----the two mustardy yellow ones are doing good still, and 3 pale pale blue/green ones. 17 eggs total so far.....for the 4th of July hatch. I am not sad anymore when eggs do not make it, just ticked that I bought shipped eggs again lol What makes me sad is when they make it to lockdown then don't hatch, so I hope if there are anymore quitters I will be able to tell before the weekend.

I've found that during lock down, the humidity needs to be less than we have been doing..way less. I am going to keep to the 55 to 60 range. Preferable keeping it close to 57/58. I did well with as many as I had the first time in lock down in my new bator. The showgirls will be a test again. Lisa, I forgot you asked me the size of the eggs. Two are nice sized, one in a pullet sized egg. Pulling for that tiny tot.
