I prefer to use screws. You can drill out the hole straight and then drill the screws in, but I hadn't done anything but hang drapes and blinds before we built henhouse. Power tools were kinda fun. Even the circular saw was easier than I imagined. And you can rent a nailgun by the day. I don't know why I was intimidated by them.Moriah & Red - Hehehe I know right?! I need to get my hands on a bunch of chicks.![]()
Hopefully I can get my handy friends to help me build the roosts and such, because I'm hopeless with a hammer.I'm great at organizing and arranging, quick at learning genetics for breeding animals, and coming up with ideas for wooden boxes to house the animals, but I couldn't put together a wooden box to save my life.![]()

I'm a newbie at chickens, but I know I'll be looking for breeds that are cold hardy. I'm still figuring out what type of chicken I like.

I was concerned about "cold-hardy" too, and picked my original flock based on that and mellowness. Now I find that they are more affected by heat than they ever were by the cold. They are holding their wings out to cool off, and walking through mud puddles, and its only June.
