Love the way you worded that!! lol
Good luck on the house selling!

x2!

Ha haaaaaa Lisa, you're naughty. It really would help if Birdguy told me he only has a bunch of UGLY birds that aren't for sale, anyway. Especially since I have no monies. And I'm pretty sure I'll put my boyfriend under if I get anything else. Better not

And your Australorp story made me laugh.

Paint their toenails lol!! Or use a sharpie and make a dot on their heads, it lasts longer. i tried sharpie on the bottom of feet but it wears off really fast. zip ties on their little legs, if you have any small enough.....
Birdguy, no turkeys to Utah. Really........

My DH will be with me for impulse control!
So you are going to be taking a full grown Tom home instead huh?

My STINKING Australorp never gave me the egg. She was in and out all day of the nests, getting her butt kicked by my layers, they really gave her the business. I threw them out, then they promptly ran to my garden and ate half my peas and dug holes everywhere. Meanwhile Miss Aussie sits in the nest, takes a little nap, goofs off in the nest for hours. I finally had to put the big girls back in, then they were back at it. Didn't Miss Aussie understand she had a window to get her business done? Haha.... Now she is back trying to get in the nest and getting her butt kicked.
This may take a while.....

She is frantically trying to lay in the nest and having some serious anxiety. Give.me.an.egg.already. Poophead.

I just went out there and my lavender is sitting in the nest.........c'mon girls let's get this party started! I have 7 red in the face that should be laying any day! When I finally get the blue egg, I may need to be resuscitated after I pass out on the grass...

Haha Lisa, you make me laugh!!!

Oh man Lisa thanks for the good laugh! Very funny story.

Birdguy those little chicks hatched!!! Yay! She was sitting on them when I was there. Very fun and I'm an idiot when it comes to guessing breeds I don't have.

So no guess from me.

Sundance so happy your eggs are pipping.

Sphinx I still have apricots leftover from when I tired to use them all up before I left for Idaho. I've done jam, syrup, dried apricots, froze them and tomorrow I will do fruit leather. It just won't end. Oh and the chickens LOVE them. Thats great about you getting some sells!

Daloorashens I'm going to look right now and give you a vote!

you know what? I read that she didn't want any silkies, the very night you were going to give her the showgirl..all I could think was, well, it isn't a silkie, it's a showgirl. he he...and I had to remember that she had said, if any of those three hatched, she would want one, so, I wasn't too worried. Just a bit. But this one is so pretty.
Now, I have a white silkie I need to place. She is a silkie, not a showgirl. They are pretty, the whites.
Sasha, this isn't the white you saw out there the other day, I am keeping that one unless she decides to crow. Better not!
I fell in love with your blue silkie this weekend! Yep, I think I may have to get a couple of those, but next year. :) I'm done acquiring chickens for this year. I think.
So everyone that got chicks and chickens that were delivered by me are they all doing all right??? I always worry about that.

Sasha and TeeRex sorry I missed seeing you coming back I ended up coming back a day early and I knew you guys would just be getting home from your trip. I still would love to come see your place on my next trip. I'm happy all your animals and home were ok when you got back.
Hi Jill! All four babies you dropped off with me did/are doing really well. Lisa picked her two up last night, but they were all doing great. My two "left behind" cried most of today, but have settled down for the night. They sure loved their brooder-mates!
No worries about not getting back our way to visit again, I figured your schedule had changed. There will be other chances, I'm sure! :)
I lost a chicken today. I am devastated. Birdy was a blue Americana and my only blue egg layer. She laid an egg yesterday so she wasn't egg bound. She was fine last night on the roost with everyone else but dead on the coop floor this morning. I have frozen bottles in their water and the coop is open on both ends with ventilation on top. I am totally bummed. She hadn't been dead to long when I found her. I put the sizzles and auracanas in the outside run with a bulb in the coop for warmth at night, They did just fine. Right now I have the sprinkler going in the chicken yard and decided to let the chickens free range in the yard so they can maybe find a cooler place. There is lot of shade in the run but there is shaded cement in the yard so they may be cooler. Still makes me feel really bad. I understand about depression as I have been treated for it for years. The Dr. Wanted me to find an outside hobby, hence the chickens. They do help me alot. Iput my eggs in lockdown they are due Thursday. I am not sure that any will hatch because of the nessed up humidity while I was gone. Time will tell i guess. None of these eggs were candled except the sizzles. The eggs are too dark and shells too thick. I ordered a high intensity candler but I don't think it will get here before hatch date. With the heat outside what %humidity would be best at this point? I have it at 60%
Aww, I'm super sorry you lost a chicken.

I've been checking my chickens several times a day because I've been worried about them over heating. I hose down their run every morning, turn on the mister, give them electrolyte water in the evenings and when it starts to become warm water about midday, give them nice cool water. I've dunked a couple chickens in a water bucket because they looked extra hot. So far, so good.
As for your humidity for your hatching eggs, I'd bring it up to 70%. I had a couple ducklings get shrink-wrapped even at a consistant 75% my last hatch.

I'm getting rid of some of my fluffier chickens, they just can't handle the heat, but no losses, thankies to trees and misters.
You're in southern UT, right? Oofda, must be so much hotter down there than up here in Cache Valley. I do want to plant several trees in the pasture/around the chicken coop for shade.
