All this talk of incubating and chicks at Cal Ranch is making me crazy!! I have purposefully not gone to Cal Ranch up here to see if they do summer chick days or not...

Speaking of newly laying hens... My blue orp and Marans BSL have been so red for a couple of weeks now, I'm expecting any day for them to lay..

Oh, and Lisa, my OE that I thought was an EE=) that's been laying for about 10 days now, her egg was bigger today.. they had been pretty small, now they're more like small/medium, they were quite small. BUT, that said, the other BSL (which I actually sold to have some more room) was still laying smallish eggs and she had been laying for about a month, but she had laid 2 double yolkers in the month she had been laying...

My baby is slowly coming along, and she is white. Not buff. Couldn't tell with her wet. The yellow on her head will turn white.
I have a pretty white silkie outside, I am thinking is a girl, getting as pretty as my blue splash, I call the white girl, cotton. She looks like a little fluff ball of cotton.

Anyway, I have also seen the babies at Cal Ranch. They had some babys the last time I went it, I may have to get my little showgirl a companion, she's going to be lonely until Thurs. hmmm, just not sure, I don't want another bantam, I think they are wyondotte bantams. Will watch her and see how lonely she gets. Then the others will be gone, then I won't have to buy any others, but then, I would have to hold her, and then, when I put her down she will cry, and then, I will feel bad. Oh dear. Maybe I just justified buying from Cal Ranch??!

Shaking finger at the screen! You shouldn't be going anywhere young lady! Still a bit weak aren't you? And, what about that broken rib? Why are you coming to Orem?

What kind of chick is it?

My baby just opened it's eyes for the longest time yet. Starting to hold it's head up longer too. It has a nice big bowtie, some are pretty small.

For Lisa..from your enabler..go to her site. I can't pull up pictures now on the sell sites. What's up with my computer? Or is anyone else having problems. I got Adblock, that took care of the blue ads on here, but can't upload pictures on those sites. Anyway, she talks about her D'Uccles being really sweet and will fly up to you for treats.

Like I said, go to her site, pretty little birds.

Howdy! I got my chicks in May from IFA and was very adventerous because it was my very first time with chickens. My family and I built our own hen house and pen which was a feat because growing up I never saw my Dad with a screwdriver or hammer in his hand! I live on BYC for knowledge but should have done it before I got my chicks because now I have 17 with 9 different breeds. The girl told me I would lose 1/2 to 1/3 but so far so good - nada. Nine different breeds that I have to try to sex now. Is the best thing just to go breed by breed and look them up on here?

Welcome! 17?? Way to go! That is about how it went for me, kept on getting more....
best thing you can do is post pics right here, there will be lots of folks who will know at this age what you have. Look forward to seeing your flock!

That is kind of you to offer but 17 may take quite a bit of time. I do have some pictures but I don't know if they will be the right angles. I can start with a few and thank all in advance. Let me know if this works or should I get individual pictures. Whew!
