Utah!

congrats everyone on the chicks and chickens showing up! so tonight i walk into the coop and could not find my spr, ended up finding her in the nest box even tho she layed this morning. not sure if she is broody or what but i am hoping she is not! i put her on the roost and she was not too happy about it. i just do not want anyone broody right now lol

aunti, those babies are darling!! I love the eyeliner on babies. Do you more that hatched? What's going to be fun is watching those icelandics change a lot in looks as they grow. How fun!

Whit! Good luck!

Now my news..not so fun or good. I just candled my olive green eggs. NONE, are viable at day 11. Yes, they are dark eggs, but when you can see through dark eggs at day 11, that is not a good thing. I never saw any veining. :( Not even in the lighter eggs. Now I'm like Lisa was with getting that blue egg, I'm still trying to get that olive colored egg.

Red, that hen looks like a keeper to me. :) Glad she found some food. I agree with sphinx, sex link? I am not seeing any black in the tail, or wing tips. Maybe the picture is hiding it. My girl has black in both the tail and wings.

Good luck Whittni!!!

Cute chicks Hattie!!! Ditto on the broody hens... Love seeing chickens getting raised the 'normal' way..

Yay, Red for the mystery chicken.. hope she is a good layer for you=)

So cool you 3 girls got together.. and we are all happy to be dorks with you!!

Double yay that Thing 2 is looking better... love the name, so appropriate!

So I went to Cal Ranch today, and, yes they had chicks, LOTS of them... and, yes, I resisted=) Although I was very tempted by the bantams, and a little by the BSL's and SLW's... haha Even DH was like.. that brooder box is still all set up in the garage (see, he's not such a grinch=)

oops, missed birdman and cynthia's posts...

Good luck with the broody?? hen , sheesh, how dare she??

Cynthia, sorry about the eggs... that's really disappointing... funny how things like that go, I have two OE's, not on purpose, and a 3rd that will be laying within the next little while... I'm hoping for a nice chocolate egg... eager to see what my Marans BSL will lay, and of course, it will be quite some time before those FBCM's will lay... Speaking of... those 2 FBCM's I got from you?? Both pullets=) YAY!!

Five have hatched. I'm still waiting on the Maran. The Maran chick has her beak out but she seems content in staying where she is and I would really like to sleep tonight. Ha! There are two under my other broody but no pips. It doesn't surprise me. She isn't really that good at brooding. So I'm not really expecting them to hatch.
So if anyone wants any of these little chicks let me know. I was just letting my broodies hatch some. Well and of course because I am shamelessly addicted to hatching and baby chicks.

I have a guy here that said he would take them but I wanted to ask all of you first. I will be traveling the full length of Utah once again. The first week in September. I could bring them to you then. They will be 5 1/2 weeks by then.

Maybe Bird Guy can tell us want the mixes will be.

Wow!! Cynthia that is crazy that all of them aren't viable. That would be so upsetting. Were they shipped eggs? That worries me.

Bird man good luck with that.

I tried breaking mine but then had to give in because they had the stronger will I guess.

Daloorashens - you really walked out without chicks?!! Even when your DH gave you the ok? Wow!

Cynthia, so sorry about the olive eggs

How disappointing.

Whittni, I agree with Sphinx. Please be sure to take pictures! I wish I was a lot closer. I'd so come to the fair and see your birds

Haha hey Birdman, I guess your SPR took what I said to heart about you needing more chickens

Let me know if you want a few fertile eggs to put under her. I'll be sure to collect a few from my Marans.

So, I got a good look at the mystery hen. (Drum roll, please)

A Buff Orp! And a very sweet girl, too. She wasn't so keen on being held (see the little stink eye?) but she was fine with coming right up to my boyfriend and I, and even letting me pet her and give her some scratch in my hand. I haven't found bugs on her yet, but I think we'll be treating her, just to be safe. Assuming she stays. I'm going to check KSL and see if anyone has lost a hen in that area, and my boyfriend is going to ask around. I know how lousy it is to lose a chicken. If no one claims her, we'll be happy to keep her. She's kind of scrawny under all that fluff, and a bit dirty, even for a chicken, but she's a sweetheart. It doesn't look like she's laying right now. My boyfriend thinks it could be that she's an older hen, and I think it could be due to poor nutrition. We've dubbed her Goldie for the time being.

Oh yes, and she loves cuddling up to my rooster. He was making the funniest little "I'm happy but not quite sure what to think of this" noises tonight.

See Sphinx? NOT photogenic. Bleh................

Cynthia, what a bummer on the olive eggs. I'm sorry. Keep in mind that once my operation is up and running, I'll have them coming out my ears. Most will be omelets- remember one rooster is a legbar and the other is a fbcm. So, with all of my blue egg laying girls, and a couple browns, I will have some really fun combinations. I'll be happy to share eggs with you to hatch. I think my very favorite chicken is going to be an olive egger. I believe she's a fbcm/lav amer. cross. She is absolutely stunning.

Delarooshens, congrats on your steel will! I was relieved when I went to the feed store and there were no chicks at all.

Hattie, did that FBCM hatch yet?

Red, woohoo! An orpington! I hope you end up getting to keep her.

Bird-man, hope she isn't going broody. it's too hot for that.

I have some chicks that hatched out of beautiful huge Olive eggs. Let me know if you want one. I also have some frizzled Americanas that hatched out of big pretty blue eggs if anyone wants those and of course I have the sizzles
