Utah!

Cynthia, my lav has not gone to the nests yet today. Yesterday was grand central station, today rather quiet, do not know if they will all lay again....lots of new ones yesterday.

I do not think I have EVER gone in Cal Ranch and seen the waterers freshly changed. And the food is always very low. I was in there taking Barred Rocks out of the SLW bin the other day, lots of wrong chickens in the wrong bins....and the food was totally gone in 2 of 3 brooders, and the ducks had no water it was bone dry. It is so sad, it makes me crazy. They need to have someone attend to them and that be their only job during chick season, don't ya think? I would do it. What a fun job!

Ugh! Cynthia, glad you were there to get those chicks taken care of! I didn't say anything, but I had to go into the West Jordan Cal Ranch the other day for some stuff. I cruised by the chick bins and saw that one of the banty chicks was dead. Broke my heart. I went and grabbed someone and told them about it so that they got it out of there. I turned in a job app for that store this week, so I'm hoping that I get something. I'd love to work there, and I wouldn't mind babysitting chicks all day

It makes me cringe when I see a chick walking around with massive pasty butt problems. One of these days, I may just cave and reach in to fix it when no one's looking. That's a miserable way to die.

I still say that the Tooele Cal Ranch is the best I've seen. Went in there the other day, too, and there was almost always someone in sight of the chick bins to keep an eye on them. I like that place. They even had loose mesh covers over some of the bins to help keep people out of them - such as the bantam bin. (I so bad wanted to get this teeny little white Bantam. The BF liked one that looked like a little penguin, too. I stopped, looked at him, and said, "We need to go. NOW." All he said was, "Yep.")

Sundancen, you should stop by and see Birdguy. I haven't seen his place yet, but when I talked to him on the phone, I could hear all kinds of animals in the background

Cynthia, that is definitely blue.

I've been haunting my nest boxes today. So far I've gotten two brown eggs. I was noticing my other lav isn't very red in the face, so I think she has a ways to go. Sundance, maybe our sisters will lay at the same time too!

Not needing any more chickens, but I hope you have a nice trip to ID.

Red, good luck on the job. That would be a fun place to work.

I was at the Layton Cal Ranch today and I was actually pretty impressed with the kid that was taking care of the chickens. We noticed that the big Cornish meat chickens were out of water and I he jumped right in and got them water right away. Then we noticed that there were two little bantams with pasty butt (one bad enough that he couldn't go) and he went to the other side of the store to get some rubber gloves and fixed them right away. He was so cute, he kept apologizing to them as he was working on them because they were peeping so loud. Really nice guy.

Sphinx - protest all you want but I can just see what is going to happen with you and that cow. It is just too cute. We are going to see posts about him and what he is doing. After a while we are going to notice in the pictures that he is wearing a sparkley collar with a name tag on it. One of these days one of us going to see you driving by with his head sticking out of the car window and his tongue hanging out. When he shows up on your family Christmas card we are going to know that he is staying.

yep.. I agree..sphinx, you don't plan on having fresh beef in the future do you? With little cuties like that walking around your yard? Before you know it, and you probably just won't notice it, they will be big. Enough to eat. But, like happy said..all of those things, except the car thing, but you would if you could.

My little Welsummer is a good layer, she laid again today! Still small, though. How long do they take to get big? I'm not expecting a full sized egg tomorrow I'm just wondering how many times they have to lay before they get bigger. She was so funny, I was out watching her and she'd go in each of the nesting boxes on one side of the coop, then she'd go check out the other ones, then go back. Then she'd kick the shavings out, turn around, squat down, find another box. So far she's laid both of her eggs in the same box so that will probably be her favorite.
