Utah!

Brad, so sorry to hear about the grumpy neighbor. Some people will just never be satisfied or happy. It is hot out there, hope it goes ok! Wish you could send us pics of your final setup! You need to get the phone cam up and running :) What kind of bushes are you going to plant around your coop?

yeah its a pain. this man is very nosy, likes to trim our bushes so he can see what we are doing, yells at me because i drink beer in my own yard. he mows his lawn 4 times a week and wants us to do the same. he is just a crazy old man. the new coop floor is a concrete pad so that sucks, i like dirt floors in coops. the new coop is 8x10 so its good size. and i may be able to get a few ducks too. it all sucks. my girls will not be able to have a run for a few days :(

Well now we will need to work on getting you all ready for a few new chicks next spring loL!!
All that room cannot be wasted.....;) :jumpy

Do you have any goji berry bushes (Wolfberry I have heard them called also) > I have heard chickens love them, and want to get a few. Wondering if anyone on here has first hand experience with them.

Bird man, sorry about your neighbor. Some people just love to be unhappy.

Cynthia, yeah, one of my lavenders (the one not laying) is favoring her left leg and won't put weight/walk on it unless she feels her life is threatened. I've got her in a quiet place in the coop where nobody can get to her, and I'm taking her out every couple hours to make sure she's drinking and eating. Poor baby.

Red, I can't believe animal control never showed up. GRRRRRR

My BLRW that I hatched TWENTY SIX WEEKS ago is still not laying.

Happy to say baby boy is feeling better today=) Slept for 14 hours last night, I'm sure that helped!!

Wow, birdguy, congrats on all those little piggies (none of them went to the market yet, though, right?) ROFL, ok, that was cheesy!! can't wait to see pics.. you should put them on the ID thread, too...

Yay for Hector!! so glad for you that you get to keep your chickens!!!

Oh, I think I forgot to mention before that those olive eggs gamebird posted were really pretty, too, cool!!

Yay, cynthia for the new chicks!! so fun!! MAkes me want to go back to Cal Ranch and get some more, haha, but I won't, this house is full right now=)

I planted sunflowers in my corn rows, and they are now taller than the corn stalks... should be blooming soon... Loving all the stuff in the garden this time of year... I'll be having fried zucchini for dinner tonite=)

I need to post some pics of the Leghorn EE's I got from Cynthia... they are so different now.. one pullet, one roo... I'll have to take a walk out to the coop this afternoon....

Sorry if I forgot someone else!!

Oh yea.. Red... seriously.. the dog situation in your neighborhood is seriously ridiculous...

And Birdman... sorry about your aunry neighbor, that is really frustrating!! I'm also interested to know what kind of plants you put around your coop...

And BLuejems.. congrats on doing so well with your goats!! Awesome

I think that's everyone??

thank you everyone. i think i want to plant a mulberry tree because they give off hundreds of lbs of food for the chickens a year and plus we had the fruitless kind when i was a kid. i may plant some pine trees there too, along with yews or bamboo. i do not have any goji berry bushes but i have tons of other berrys. one berry i highly recommend is the logan berry.

Birdman- so a Mulberry tree. The berries are what you feed the chickens I presume? Or leaves? Just making sure! I need to plant three trees by my coop, down on the South West corner, then about maybe 10-12 bushes along the long west side to protect from so much sun. What other trees are ok? I am asking you because you are quite good at utilizing things like that for multi-uses. I need to do better at that. Collard greens, oat grass = next year for sure! Anything to help keep the feed budget square. WE have lots of land/places to plant here, just need to do better at planning.

Sasha, my birds from Bonnie are not laying great either. Zoey, curly toes, lays 2 days on 2 day off (about) and Chloe has laid 2 in 9 days. Hang in there

maybe they just need to get out of this dang heat. My first SLW laid at 26 weeks, so you have got to be close! I think the polish will be a bit longer, mine does not look ready at all.
Hey how are your babies. We need to do a red wattle comparison. Mine are pink still, but def not red, and pretty small. So far they are getting no more color so I am hopeful. But there is that pink up on the nose too....her crest sure looks female. But I don't rely on that anymore

I will get a pic on here of mine, tell me how it compares to yours. If this one is a girl I might get a buddy for her. Maybe.

Thanks, Lisa. That does make me feel better. And, I just text you a couple pictures.... :) OK, I'll give my Wyans a couple more weeks before I start getting more unhappy. :p I'll take pics of our Polish babies this evening.
Sphinx, the BF waited four hours for someone to show up and get the dog. The neighbor who works in Animal Control finally came and got him and took him over to her yard for the night. I'll PM you on the other stuff, if you want. Don't want to drag everyone down with drama here.

Blu, glad you guys had fun! Way to go!

Birdguy, congrats on so many piglets! (hoglets?)

Sasha, none of my oldest girls have started laying yet. I've got four that are at least 22 weeks old, now. I think they're punishing me for splitting their group up. I made a nesting area in the run to see if anyone was interested, and all that happened was some of the smaller chicks started using it as an escape hatch to dig out of the run

Tee hee :) I shouldn't laugh....but that's exactly the way Murphy's law would go for me.
Sphinx- sorry about your lavender. I hope she will start to walk soon.

Bird Guy- That's really neat about your daughter helping out so much with the deliveries. She was there the last time I saw you at the barn and she sure seemed to know what she was doing then. Helping with the chickens. That's really great she was able to help.

Sasha if it makes you feel any better I'm getting one egg every other day about. So hot here! My little Polish is the only one laying. I'm thinking my little Cochin will sometime soon. I hope I hope. Then I need to get my Silkies in gear again. That will be awhile I think. They are still being little mothers.

I deep cleaned my coop out today. Sprayed it and treated for bugs with permethrin. Then put new pine shaving in with DE. I haven't seen any bugs but it has been so hot there has to be some. It feels good to have that done. It is suppose to get too 108 by Saturday here. The chickens are loving their air conditioning and I was so thankful for it when I was cleaning! Ha! That alone made that thing worth it!
Thanks, Auntie! I'm glad I'm not alone in my want for some eggs! Yikes, 108! Your chickies don't know just how good they have it with a/c!

Oooh, 26 weeks!?!? I hope my girls don't go any longer than that! I'm sorry you are waiting, too.

To quote Giselle from the movie "Enchanted"....He is "not a very nice old man"!!! What a pain in the you-know-what. We are so blessed that we have the land we do, and the neighbors we do. All of our neighbors either have chickens/farm critters themselves, or they love and admire ours. :) One of my neighbors can be found dumping grass clippings from their yard into our pasture for our horse to munch on. I'd normally have a cow if someone did something like that, but we know them pretty well, and know they would never do anything to endanger Karma. :)

Ugh, Brad, sorry about the neighbor issues
sad.png
People like that drive me nuts. It's one thing if you want to have a nice, crisp-looking yard. It is totally another issue to tell someone else what to do. Mulberry trees are so nice. Love the berries.......yum......and bamboo is great! It grows fast and is so pretty and green. Let me know if you need help moving stuff around, k?

Dalooras, your cute little pun made me laugh
smile.png

Sphinx, now that I think about it, one of the rescue pullets I had at the first of the year took a while to start laying. I think she was around 8 mo. old when she finally started. I'd always figured that it was partly due to poor conditions at her previous home, though.

So, I publicly complain about Hedwig not laying a second egg in 60 hours, and this is what I get....

A pretty little green pullet egg from Hedwig! I need to publicly complain more often!
big_smile.png
Hoping it blues up...she is a "sister" to Lisa's Chloe and Zoey. I can't quite catch the true color with my iPhone. Good girl, Hedwig! She laid it in the coop this time, but not in the box. Hopefully, she'll get there. :)
