Beautiful eggs!

More hatching! woo hoo!
I love this wave! I think the little exploding face is my favorite, though. :)
I am 15 days into my first attempt every to incubate some eggs. Yesterday my 14 year old son and myself were wondering if our attempt was progressing. Fast forward 24 hours and the 19 month old somehow wondered into his bothers room got an egg out of the incubator and broke it open...incubation is progressing!
Yay for good incubation!
Heard there are some fellow hatchaholics over hear in the wild and crazy UT section, yeah!! Mind if I join the midnight maddness hatching party?

Currently finishing up Black Wyandotte Bantams and still chugging along on OEGB.

You kids getting any of these lovely Idaho smoke over there?
Last week the smoke in norther Utah (Cache Valley) was super bad. My eyes were tearing up for a few days, and it was really bothersome. Doesn't seem so bad today, but the humidity is awful!
Looky! My Ameraucana laid one as big as the NH!!

Can you see that I am in shock? I couldn't believe it when I went to get her egg.

Ameraucana, NH, and leghorn..Miss Piggy, my leghorn better get busy if she wants to keep up with size!

large eggs!

What are you feeding your girls, Cynthia!?!? LOL

I don't know what to do about Hedwig. She keeps laying her eggs FROM THE ROOST. Her shells are super hard, and the roost is only 2' off the ground and there's lots of straw to soften the fall so none of the eggs have broken.
Both the cochins were in the nest box this morning, checking it out. They are a month younger than my Wyandottes who haven't laid yet.

Jill, have fun on your little get-away!

So the heat is really starting to get to me this summer. I need a vacation from the heat. So we are going to take one this week! Going to LaJolla,California. The beach will be cooler. It should only be in the 70's there. I'm so ready for it. So excited we will be leaving on Wednesday.

Our daughter and family will be staying here to take care of our dog and chickens. So I won't have to worry.

So I thought I would post some pictures of the two week old chicks. They are still up for grabs if any want them.

Two if the Icelanics and one of the mixes.

Enjoying watermelon .
Such sweet pictures. I love seeing baby chicks being raised by mommas and being in a family. I'll bet they are learning a lot from her. See, she is even teaching them to use a plate

Jealous!!! I am so glad that you are getting out of town for a while. You deserve it!

Hattie, have fun on your trip. You'll miss me being in your neck of the woods again- DH and i are going to Zion sans kids this weekend. We're trying to get a permit to hike the Subway. It has me a little apprehensive because there's some rappelling involved, but I think we'll be ok. Love your babies, too cute.

Cynthia, those eggs are HUGE!!!!!

Chickenhill, I think there are a couple shows around here. I went to one a few months ago that was held at the Davis County Fairgrounds that was kind of fun.

I'm thinking I need to have DH get to work on the nest boxes in the new coop. Because all of my chickens are always so slow to lay, I figured I had more time. But today, I was checking out my olive egger, who was hatched the second week of April. She's getting awfully big and red. I wanted to show ya'll a picture of her face. Partly to show how red, but also to look at her eyes. She has the darkest eyes I've ever encountered on a chicken. Sorry for the poor quality, I was trying to hold her with one hand and snap a picture on my phone with the other. The reflection kind of blocks it, but there is an even darker pupil in there, that's NOT her pupil being huge.

Happy2behere -Hahahaha I don't know why I use plates my family thinks I've completely lost it. It has been so fun watching the mamas and their little chicks. We video taped them showing the chicks how to get up the ladder to go into the coop. It was funny both mama's gave up on the last one because she was taking so long so my little Cochin finished getting the chick up. So fun to watch.

Thanks this will be our first vacation this year. We have had to many other things happening with moms and surgery's so all of our trips haven't been vacations. My daughter will be leaving the first of September for college so it is her last hurrah before we take her. Can't wait.

Hattie, have a blast on your trip!

Chickenhill--glad to see you came over here :) I am currently NOT hatching despite the taunting, lol I think I am the only one.

Sphinx, I love those eyes on your OEE, reminds me of australorp eyes only bigger. Pretty girl. How many you have laying currently? Seems like you have quite a few coming up, you were hatching quite a few back a few months...

Cynthia LOVE the huge blue egg. Of course! Beautiful thing that is!
