Utah!

Lisa, the Amer's from Cynthia should be about 18 weeks old, now. Same with Stevie and Angel, I might add

I have to make journal entries every so often to keep track of everyone's age. Otherwise, I'd have been sunk a long time ago.

Yeow..........I just read through what I wrote there. It's hard to believe. Are my chickens really getting to be adults? They still seem so small to me. It's impossible to think of anyone except the two biggest girl popping out an egg! And they still seem kinda small.

Sasha, that does seem scary, but it won't persuade me to stay away from eggs. I sometimes make a joke of biting into unhealthy foods and going, "Mmmm, saturated fats" just to see who's listening.

Got pictures of the chickens, maybe I'll post them tomorrow, from the fair.

I got my two different showgirl/silkie eggs in the mail today. These are replacements for the ones that didn't work. So many good folk on BYC willing to work with us.

I should get my turken neck eggs tomorrow, plus, some other turken necks next week from a gal that has different ones together. Tomorrows are going to be bred for color, the others I am getting for practically nothing, and thought, we will see..I just may like the different colors, and which ever ones have more feathering on their necks, because they can have muffs and bowties like showgirls..and I prefer that. They are supposed to be real hardy and lay well. Saw one at the fair today..no bow tie, looong neck..reaallly ugly. :/ My opinion. Hoping I get quite a few to hatch so I can choose one with feathers! A girly one. :D This girl sounded young..met her on ksl, a chicken place. A place to sell chickens. :) And eggs I guess. :) Homely NN's.
Cute babies though.

Red, 18 weeks? Anytime now..but, up to 20 for some. Are they squatting, or coming around you more often? We are now officially waiting for the good news of an egg for Red!!

Funny thing is, things like this article come out every little bit and freak people out but I have found that give it some time and someone will tell you the opposite. It is like the big "don't eat any fat" craze. They found out later that there are good kinds of fat that your body needs that will actually help lower your cholesterol and make you healthier.
From what I have read the yolks in eggs have omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals as well helping prevent macular degeneration in your eyes and choline which helps with brain health. One person quoted in the article wondered if the people eating the eggs were also eating bacon and sausage with them which is not good for you.
It seems to me that scienists come out with something that they are certain is true and then someone else finds that they weren't quite right. I don't think I will get too stressed out yet.

Sundance, whoa, I can't believe the depth of fear for that poor tech. Poor thing. But, I have to admit I giggled all through your prank.I

I don't believe the article either.

Candled again, 5 of my 7 eggs are good. Three of those are brown, and two are bluish.

I am with you Cynthia, not believing the article......observation only? C'mon. Plus I have read so many articles with my DH's heart disease that say cholesterol in Food you eat is processed different than sugars and things that 'cause" high cholesterol....if that makes sense. When I went on Atkin's and South Beach diet, eating tons of eggs, other protein, veg, no carbs, my cholesterol went way down and my arteries were in better shape after.

My opinion only :) I don't scare easy.....I appreciate the article post though, thanks Sasha! it was interesting reading for sure.

Red-If our Ameraucana's are only 18 weeks I am thinking they have some time still. Mine does not look anywhere near ready. I have some olive eggers from pawtraitart that will go first I am sure, getting pink, not quite red, just getting the more mature fluffed out look....would guess they will lay in the next few weeks, no squatting yet. They are about 21 weeks then the Am's would have to be a few more after that....it seems like the EE's and Am's I have had lay later than the others. Have you guys had that happen or is that normal? My chickenstock girls were born the end of January and have only been laying a few weeks. The lav laid later too....let's see, born Feb 1 and started laying 2 weeks ago>? Maybe 3? That seems a little later too.

Speaking of egg yolks, I just have to say this, I eat the whites only quite frequently, but then I really blow it because I make Hollandaise sauce with the yolks and pour it all over the whites, and everything else. That sauce is just the best thing ever. But all that butter.....haha such a bad bad idea. But so yummy. I try to eat it on veggies to make it partially a good thing.... but....I can't lie.... I can eat Hollandaise sauce on everything, or drink it like soup.
