Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been on here, and I come with sad news. I'd finally built up my flock to nine chickens and a pet duck, all super nice and lovable friendly birds who would follow me around while I did chores.
Last night I forgot to lock the chicken coop door

and a pack of dogs (Dad says at least three) killed all but one of my birds! I've only found one of my hens, the black EE ShriLee is alive. She's still spooked but seems to be alright.
I'm really upset they killed my pet duck, he was my favorite.

We couldn't find all of the bodies so I'm hoping that a few survivors might wander home... maybe.

Yesterday I got the oddest phone call from someone who responded to an ad I had for possibly selling my silkie rooster (started crowing and kind of often) and anyway on the ad and in BOLD I specifically stated that I could sell a hen or two with him but not a silkie hen. And guess what she calls about? Silkie hens. I was like "ahhh" and she kept talking for 17 minutes while I got a few words in she was really into her chickens and did most of the talking. She said she had a lot of roosters and had asked if I was coming to Las Vegas and if I did to come take them

Why? I live in the sort of suburbs but a few minutes from town...I was trying to get rid of a rooster - I was selling one.

Joybells, I really do know how you feel, and I'm so sorry. That is an awful, horrid feeling. I have had a bunch of my chickens and turkeys killed before by dogs, so to you I can offer only one thing -

Cynthia, loving the baby pictures. That splashy little NN is one of the cutest chicks I've seen in a while. Hard to believe it's from NN parents!

Joy, that is such sad news. I am so glad Shirlee made it, she is a tough one..she probably fought them off...but sad to hear about the rest. Did that buff ever start laying again? And was Lola a girl? I have been hoping you would get on here to find out what ended up happening with those two. LaVerne, Shirlee's sister, has been laying really good size eggs, i hope Shirlee's are getting big too.

Now what to do>? you need to get some more chickens! That will help you feel better (a little?)

Cynthia, so hard to know on the polish! That cuckoo/crele looks possibly bearded with a small beard? A little orangy around the nose, so it is hard to say. If there is no beard and there is a place where wattles are showing (hard to tell for sure in the pic) that is a good sign because they are not red. I have had some boys red at 6 weeks. But if it is bearded then you can only go by the nose...so far I would not dare make a guess either way. I sure am crossing fingers for you.

The buff is adorable. Her crest looks so girlie if we go by the head only. Your BCW is a lot like my little sprout haha. Not seeing any wattle action on any of my non bearded yet. Both BCW of mine are non bearded too. Will let you know when it rears its ugly head If I had to go by personality, my sprout that looks likeyours would be a girl, and the bushyheaded one acts like a boy. But that could mean nothing, the polish act so bizarre half the time

So basically, I was no help at all guessing! haha!

Sadly, my chicken didn't make it. I'm glad she went so fast though, so I didn't have to worry about her suffering. I really think there was something physically wrong with her. Her decline was very different than the other two. I had friends over picking pears when it happened, and they were so grateful for all the free fruit that they dug the hole and buried her for me, which was really sweet of them.

Joybells, I am so, so sorry for your loss. That is just heartbreaking. I hope that tomorrow morning you find some of your birds.

Cynthia, I just don't know on your polish. They're definitely very cute, but I honestly couldn't tell gender on my little polish boy til he was 10-12 weeks old. They seem girly, but I just don't know. That nnn (non naked neck) is just adorable. Soooooo cute! I loved that last picture, very seductive.

Whittni, sorry about the unique caller. In general, I've had great luck with KSL, but there are a few kooks. We are trying to sell some atv boxes, and a guy called dh on Sunday, but wasn't going to get to our house til Tuesday afternoon. DH warned him to call before he came to make sure they were still available, and that he wasn't going to hold them. Well, Monday morning, a guy came over and bought two of them. Third guy was super irritated that we didn't save them, and was really snippy in his texts, "Thanks for nothing then". Whatever. If you wanted them, you should've come sooner- I'm going to give preference to the guy standing on my porch with cash in hand.
