Utah!

Uh oh. Sphinx, any other symptoms? I think it's highly unlikely he would have slipped something in both legs. This sounds like some kind of sickness, maybe. Dang my lousy memory!

My chickens get scratch in winter, plus treats now and then like cooked oatmeal, cooked rice, or some of that honeyed grain stuff used to fatten up/reward horses. I don't know what it's called, but I loooove the smell of it. The chickens also get things like leftovers (so long as they aren't really greasy or salty) and vegetables that have gone wilty.

Well, quite uh, interesting. My black Amer. cockerel, Arthur, did his thing with my BO tonight. I'm pretty sure he didn't do it right, though. That looked mighty awkward. It's the first I've seen him try to mount any of the girls. Thankfully, he hasn't crowed yet

I hope he stays pretty mute for a while. And I feel a little shocked, honestly. My babies are all growed up and........doing what growed up chickens do.

Welcome, FeatherForest. You're my neighbor! I live in Clinton. Tell us about your chickens.

Red, sorry that your chickens are all growed up and being chickens.

Cynthia, glad the fix worked for you. :)

I got another chicken convert. A friend of mine got chickens. I'm excited for her. Except I went to check them out, and I think one is a cockerel. A different friend gave them to her, and I'm sure he'll swap that one out.

Oh, Clinton is close! Awesome! I just went out to do my morning chicken duties and found two eggs! This last week was my first to get any eggs and now apparently two of my three young hens are laying! They are just over 5 months. So exciting!
I have one Rhode Island Red, Bellina, two barred rocks, Lucy and Spectacle, an americana pullet, Fujiyama, a cochin bantam roo, Dancer, and a yet named Japanese bantam roo. I thought the two bantams were going to be female but fate said otherwise. I love them all! I'd love to hear about yours as well!

Funniest thing I have seen so far: I went out the other day to sit by the coop while I chatted on the phone with my grandma. I had left a paper plate of treats out for the chickens and when I looked over, one of the barred rocks had pecked a hole through the paper plate and was walking around with a circle stuck on her face! So hilarious! :)

I forgot I was going to ask, do you northern utahn's heat your coops? I'm building a new coop now with a bit of insulation but am still deciding what to do for heat.

Love your paper plate story, I could just picture that chicken walking around with that plate!

I heat...some don't. I know it makes a difference in what kind of chickens you have..if you have any Silkies, showgirls, some of the banatms, they may need the heat. Not sure how your coop is.

feather, just checked out your pictures, nice healthy looking chickens..didn't see them all..but I noticed that real nice garden you have there!

Welcome feathers :)

Cynthia, you feeling any better? Sure hope so! Man you were up late last night :D Your SF hatching on Friday, right?

Just had the buyer come pickup my BA. Sooooo hard to say goodbye to my little Ozzie. Of course she is laying nice eggs all week now that she was spoken for :) I just have to re-home some of those black chickens, too many black ones out there, figured I better hang on to the Marans and the olive eggers, will keep tan eggers that are a different color so I have a variety. I always hate selling one, I get a lump in my throat and get all sad inside. :(

So I am sad this morning, need something to cheer me up. Sphinx, you got any good cow stories :p Or Red, you are always good for a few funnies lol
Any more new layers yet?

Hope everybody has a great day and enjoy this cooler but still beautiful weather!
