Utah!

Sorry I fell so far behind- I went to Las Vegas for the weekend, and you guys were a very chatty bunch.

Red, I'm laughing at your girls suddenly being totally fine with cuddling now that it's cold.

Cynthia, that partridge is turning out so beautifully! I love seeing your dogs playing in the snow.

Ohhhh, Lisa, that BCM egg is to die for! I love seeing your chickens.

Blujems, your BCM egg is gorgeous too. I neeeeeed more bcm.

OMG, I didn't realize you were having surgery, Sundance. I would've made arrangements to come visit you this week if I had. Maybe I will anyway... Your dogs are so cute. Hope your surgery goes well and you have a quick recovery.

Whittni, it's interesting to see your coronation sussex. She looks leaner than mine- mine seems like a very fat girl.

I'd been starting to worry about my remaining lavender ameraucana that I got from Cynthia. I kept catching her in the nest box, but never laying. Pale comb. Plus, I've gotten all those fart eggs that look like they could be hers. So, I've been worried that something wasn't going right inside with her. It was confirmed when she ended up dying while I was out of town. I felt so bad for my poor chicken babysitter. She was pretty upset and didn't know what to do, or if it was her fault.

Hi everyone! Wow! So many fun pictures. I love them. Well for the first time in 4 weeks my house is empty (visitors gone for now) So what did I do? I bought eggs! Guesses anyone? Boredom sets in fast around here.

I'm so excited! Now I just have to pray I can hatch some of these shipped eggs.

, lol!!

So DH helped me make some heaters today to put under the waterers... It's gotten into the teens here and I HATE using the boiling water to get the waterers opened up to clean them, and I HATE using crocks that just get frozen anyway.... grrrr... so, we made heaters!! I took a bunch of pics, I think I should start a new album and post them... He also hung the light at my mom's and said the chickens got all chatty when he turned it on, haha... We set it to the hours of the daylight and it will end up turning off a little while before sundown so they can find their roosts=) It was dark in there with all the straw stacked, poor things!!

Sorry about your lav am sphinx... you've had a sad year when it comes to chicken losses

and GOOD LUCK Sundance!!!

Most people take pictures of their kids. Yesterday at the cat show we took pictures of our dogs. I am leaving for hospital soon. enjoy the pics.

Aww, love your babies. There's that special little one I got to see. What a sweetheart. Your dogs are darling. My sister has had the Yorkies forever!

Do everything the dr. and nurses say, ya hear? :) Good luck sweet lady.

Spinx! I'm so sorry! I wonder what in the world happened. I also feel for your chicken sitter. That had to be a hard thing to tell you. And hard for you to find out.

Red, your chickens won't know what to do without snow this week. We are getting warmer! Yaay! We'll see if those those chikies still want to cuddle. We still have about a foot and a half of snow out there. Been feeding that fodder to my chickens. They pick at it pretty good.

Getting my eggs ready for lock down tonight. Will candle one more time, but I have a feeling they are all alive. Now, if they don't do well during lock down, I will feel bad. But, this bator is one that I have used for the lock down and hatching.

Sphinx, so sorry you lost your lav. Poor girl must have had something that wasn't working right inside, like you said. Was this one of the Am's from Cynthia this year? I have a blue that I am waiting on to start laying. She's pretty pale in the face, still.

Sundance, keeping you in my prayers.

Hattie, I'm glad your Silkie is still hanging in there. And so far as eggs, I'm going to guess ........ Oh I have no idea. I'll just say Appenzellers, because they've been on my brain lately

Dalooras, congrats on the light for your ladies! I'm sure they appreciate it.

So, I have a sick turkey tonight

She's my younger white one, and she's been having a hard time adjusting to the cold. Today when I was feeding everyone their afternoon meal, I noticed that she had some discharge coming from her nostrils. I grabbed her and put her in her own carrier with lots of shavings and a light on her for warmth in the garage. And she got a short trip to the bathroom for a hair dryer session. I checked on her not too long ago, and she's doing a little better. She drank some of the water that I put vitamins in. I'll try to find some good, high-protein treats for her tomorrow and see how she does. I had to laugh a little, though - when she was in the bathroom, her head kept following the hair dryer up and down, up and down while I was warming her up. Turkeys are such curious creatures.

Yikes Red, I hope your turkey feels better soon.

I got my coronation from River Rock Family Farm. Not sure where she got her breeding stock from. I'll have to ask her sometime.

Hattie, I'm going to guess either some kind of polish or swedish flowers.

I feel lucky that I warned the poor chicken sitter that the one chicken wasn't doing well, and that I wouldn't be shocked if it died. Otherwise, I think it would've been even harder on her.

Hattie so good to see you on here! My guess is bantam ameraucanas......

Sundance, Gorgeous puppies, I love them. I want them all. I sure hope your surgery went well today and I am sending you the mostest good get well vibes I can muster up! Let us know when you can that you are ok.

Sphinx, this is sad news about you lav. I wonder what happened? Poor girl...and your sitter too, probably felt like she was a bad sitter. I really want to sell my lav, she lays teensy eggs still. Maybe the genetics were funky from that breeder....mine lays 6 a week, sometimes 7, but they are getting smaller not bigger. last one was 26g. I have had a few around 22-23 this week. Tiny. BUT my son is in love with her and made me promise not to sell her. We will see....when he sees the cute spring chicks maybe he will change his mind. I have to wonder if she will make it ok through the winter....she is so small too.

Cynthia, good luck on your hatch! So funny how great these eggs are doing. They are trying to tempt you to keep hatching ;)

Red, hope your turkey feels better soon!

Guys, I got 5 eggs today! That is it. There have been 13-18 per day all week. Every body went on strike at the same time....must not like that coooold night last night.

Blu and Lisa - Those are absolutely gorgeous eggs!

Cynthia - Looks like your puppy is having a ton of fun!

Sundance - Congrats on your cats and I'll be thinking and praying for you today. I hope all goes smoothly!

I love all of the pictures! My girls are going into their coop this week, I checked the forecast today and I think Thursday is the day...it's supposed to stay above freezing, even at night, for a few days after that. I'll post pictures once they're out there.

Yaay, so, your chickens are going outside this week? I bet you and your husband are going..yaaay! Yes Pictures. Would love to see the set up. And, pictures again of the babies. My Australorp is getting big, more feathered in. I also kept a leghorn. They are both outside, I have a heat lamp that is hung on the side of a panel. I don't have an actual incloser for them, but they can go behind this panel of wood, to two separate nesting areas. They come out every day to eat. The cold wind here in the mornings bothers them, when the wind goes away, they come out. I have them at the end of the main coops run..made an extra little run there, it's perfect for teens growing up. Man, cold out there! 19 degrees cold! Can't imagine what it is in Logan area.
