vaccinations for pigeons? another update

How big are the cages you have them separated in? Never keep them separated in trios unless there is room to fly around and enough perches. The pair will not like the close company and that could cause stress, which in turn can upset incubation or bring on disease.

My largest cage is 40 inches as a guess. Most of my birds are kept in very large dog crates. the biggest ones they make. The pair of rollers is in a large 30x30 inch rabbit hutch. All but the gaint house pigeons get free time outside when I can do it. I don't let the house pigeons out much because they try to take off, and go in the trees. Being they arerare, I won't want them lost. The archangle are better at behaving themselves and staying home. Flight time has to be supervised too because there are plenty cats here that would snatch them up, being that I live in town. Everyone is kept in pairs. The extra birds are caged seperate from my breeding pairs.

after reading your problem i would first get a vet involed with the problems another thing your birds sound like they are in small quarters were maybe the cock starts driving the hen to mate again have had this happen with pairs feeding babies and abandoning them just removed the cock for a week or so the hen fed the young just fine i think it is boredom in indivual pens as pigeons are flock birds

Umm I not having problems with the cocks, the eggs are dying before they hatch. both birds are doing a very good job sitting on them too.

Was also told to give each pair their own cage too because other members of the flock could prevent them from breeding. All my pairs have their own cages to themselves.

Seperate pens for pairs is usually for birds to know exact parentage or for some breeds that are aggressive in a open loft . I have both and enjoy the birds flying around while sitting in the loft watching them court build nest feed babies and just looking at them Here is a site not seen mentioned here slobberknockerlofts.com has many different things

I have diffeent breeds. So I can't let them out and take chances of them crossing with each other. Big no0no when you have show birds.

How effective is auromycin since I can get it locally for cheaper? Otherwise I am going to probably go with amoxacillin, or baytril, and then vaccinate them once the antibiotics are done.

I have not used it so I can't say much for it. But I'm sure other members will have some advice on that.

I'm 99.9% sure salmonella/paratyphoid is the issue here, since it sounds like everything else is going just fine with breeding. I can also understand about the crossing. I've had a few different breeds together before just because of lack of separate sections. I've ended up with a lot of 'oops babies' that where obviously the results of some affairs among the 'married' couples, LOL
