Well i got an email that my eggs are to be mailed to me tomorrow.  I think I must have thought "next Monday" meant the next Monday after payment and not NEXT Monday of the following week, lol.

That's alright though cause he's throwing in a few extra Swedish hen flower eggs to my Rhodebars and Cream Legbars!  yippee skippy!!!!   And in a couple days i'll pick up two dozen of lavender orpingtons, jubilee orpingtons and white dorkings.  WHOOOOOO HOOOOO!

So I suppose I don't mind a late delivery on eggs if I'm getting an extra breed I've been wanting anyways.

Every one of those breeds you listed is I've I would LOVE to have! Right now I have cochins, buff orpingtons, a welsummer, a black star, a white leghorn, and one I think might be a production red. But I'm super excited to get legbars and rhodebars in a shipment of chicks this April! My hope was to breed them. It's sounds like legbars are difficult to hatch ... why is that? Does anyone know?

It seems that some lines of legbars are next to impossible to hatch. It is suspected that inbreeding or some kind of lethal gene combination is preventing the chicks from developing to hatch. Other breeders have 100% hatch rates though. My personal experience with them has been horrible. I got adult hens and a rooster from someone who had limited success hatching their eggs. So far I have had a 0% hatch rate with them. A friend of mine hatched 3 eggs, but I'm not sure what I am doing differently that what she did. I put 14 more legbar eggs in my incubator and will see what happens. After this hatch, I am done with them. My hens are not nice birds and are destructive around the barn. DH said we can only raise our own chicks now because whenever we get adult birds they have behavioral problems. LOL The legbar rooster had some undesirable traits, and he was super mean to boot, so he met the ax last week after we had collected eggs. I do have another cockerel that has been trying to breed the hens, so *if* the legbar eggs hatch I won't be certain who the father is. I wouldn't be able to sell them as purebreds, so I'll just have to keep them!

On another note, my favorite rooster was half legbar half Ameraucana. He was great with the hens and also friendly with people. His babies are very colorful and super nice as well. Unfortunately he passed in December. I kept two of his cockerels to carry on his line. They are 3/4 Ameraucana with stunning markings.

Here are some of the eggs i set for the vday HAL.

10 Iowa Blue
9 EE
1 F1 OE
14 Whole Foods Fertile Egss (365 Brand)

Thats in this pic including 4 frizzle cochin eggs that are hatching right now and 14 khaki campbell eggs that will be hatching 2/3.

In the other bator are

22 WF Fertile marked eggs (365 Brand)
13 WF Organic Free Range (Farmers Hen House Brand)

i still have 19 Organic Free range eggs to go in the cabinet bator if the bugs get worked out but they will miss the vday HAL.

the svart hona aren't cheap but if you are willing to work with them then they're worth it!
Svart Hona and Ayam Cemani should be dropping in price. Greenfire Farms just lowered prices of both of them by a butt load.

Ayam Cemani is now day old chicks for $199
Svart Hona is now day old chicks for $99

They are also apprently switching to selling only day old chicks for everything they breed now, most straight run only.

One exception is Cream Legbars Day old pullet $29 Day old Roos $19. So i am probly gonna order a trios of Legbars unless i can fit more places to put eggs lol.

The waiting is horrible! I vowed not to candle until day 7 though. At that point I can pull the clears and rearrange the eggs in the incubator. Candling before that will not be conclusive anyway. This is good therapy for my ADHD! haha The eggs will also be weighed on day 7 so I can adjust my humidity if necessary. Right now I'm at 99.3 degrees and 44% humidity.

I wanted to be a part of this hatch a long but do to poor time management lol i wont be able to get my eggs in till this evening. So may tag along anyways
