Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

I set 24 black copper marans. I can't hardly wait for them to start hatching. My daughter has been driving me crazy about wanting svart hona chicks.

the svart hona aren't cheap but if you are willing to work with them then they're worth it!

You can add them today. They might hatch a day later, but chances are they will hatch with the rest. I added some eggs a day later under my broody and they all hatched on the same day.

I only have 5 spots left in my turner and the eggs are sold as a dozen.

I could take them out of the turner and fit a lot more in there, but I really don't want to hand turn...I may just go and see and if I can get them cheap, go ahead and get some. I can already tell I'm going to need a 2nd incubator!! Lol

I added 4 more egges to my incubator that were laid today, which brings my total to 23.
11 = Black Copper Marans
12 = Olive Eggers

It's the Little Giant one. It's not that bad, but it does require a lot of checking and adjusting. The next one I get, will definitely be one of the better ones.

I hand turn. Did you see my pic? I totally overloaded my incubator, but it only takes me about 3 minutes to turn 70 eggs. I do it 3 times a day. If you miss a turn it isn't a deal breaker. You know the broody hens aren't doing it consistently anywa

they are supposed to be black all the way through. They need some work from responsible breeders cause there are a lot of them that do not have the all black trait. Everything should be black, down to the inside of their mouths and tounge. I've seen picture with pink toes, clear toenails, pink tounges, etc. These are problems that need to be worked out of the breed.
