Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

your TSC lied to you. All TSC stores will have them no later than February 28. Some store started a little earlier in the warmer weather states.
They are a brand new store....TSC's newest store from what i am told. So they likely just got it wrong.

I would go back and talk to the again. The TSC by me is supposed to have some in next week. Feb 16 is what they told me.
Maybe because i'm in northern michigan? Was -5 last night before winchill from up to 30 mph winds

At 7:30am it was -10 and felt like -19 with windchill. So yeah we will probly be more towards the deadline of feb 28th lol.

He might be in charge of the special order chicks people order, but those ship direct to the house of the person who orders them. I work at a TSC and I'm the only one who has a clue at mine. It's pretty bad. Company doesn't teach anyone about seperating them or anything, just basic chick care and proper disposal of dead chicks.
What are special orders? i didnt know you could do special orders at TSC.

I have eggs hatching on V-day! 6 Black Javas and 6 Olive Eggers are in lockdown now. They were in my Brinsea Octagon 20 for incubation and now in my brand new IncuView for hatching. Crossing fingers all will be well...everyone looked great on day 17 candling!
So thats where my eggs went....i see i see....i'm only joking of course and i am very glad you joined the HAL!!!

This is my first hatch using a new bator and my first hatch in this old farmhouse with wood stove heat. MUCH harder to keep temps stable in these conditions, especially with the VERY cold weather we have had. Down to 12* outside tonight here in the mountains of Western NC, and I'm having my husband check the bator temps when he gets up to tend fire at 2am. If it's 100* at bedtime it'll drop a degree or a bit more by then as the fire dies down. Not sure I will do this again in high Winter unless I am in a push button heat, temperature-managed, situation.

I too have a Brinsea..my temps in the house are so cold or variable even it is struggling!

At my house we have wood heat too...temps vary from 105F to 45F...my incubator sits under a window with a peice of cardboard set between the bator and the window, it is also about 2.5 feet from the front door. My incubator stays rock solid at 37.5C no matter the house temp all the way down to 45F...below that and it will drop to 37.4 - 37.1C still reasonable since even then it will work harder and raise the temp back up to 37.5 within about 10-15 minutes. Our house does not stay below 45F for more then 30 minutes or so max...basically when the stove needs cleaned out.

What brand of incubator do i have that seems to handle anything i throw at it? An $86 Janoel (not the knock off) it has also been running for over 2 months now. no issues.

Special orders are when a customer orders something that is not normally carried within the store, such as special breed chicks or parts for your lawn mower.

New stores unfortunately do not always get the best training right off. They get the absolutely necessary training but it's always a year or two before they start to really get it together. Weed out the good and bad employees.

My chicks never seem to cooperate.

They are supposed to wait until Saturday, except there are now nine chicks hatched and three more pips. There are still 12 more that aren't doing anything. Maybe they are waiting for the 21 day mark.

This is always the worst best part of hatching. Sitting there watching and waiting.

And then doing your best to be patient.

Anyone else seeing some chick hatching action today?

Understandable...everyone seems helpful there just not quite sure of when this or that happens.

How does on special order chicks thru TSC and can you order less or is shipping less or something if you order thru TSC....just not seeing the benefit here rather then order thru the hatchery itself?

Congrats to everyone with pips and zips and hatches!!!!

Also forgot to say i ended up taking out 1 clear before lockdown...the other 15 all looked good. Means i lost 78 eggs so far...sign....darn Whole foods for not having fresher eggs.

Jim didn't believe that I was hearing peeping yesterday cuz every time he checked all was silent... One of my OEGB's, unknown kind since they were sent unmarked...

they are more expensive and you can only order specific breeds. It's cheaper to order through the hatchery in most cases. Minimum of 25 chicks. They are $2.89 each for straight run and $3.49 each for pullets and assorted bantams. I'm unsure on the shipping charges yet this year. Usually they are in addition to the cost of chicks.
