Valentine's Day 1st Annual Hatch Along

Dirt wont hurt them. I found 14 nasty dirty leghorn eggs underneath my coop (as in she actually squeezed under the building itself). They were covered in mud and filth and I didn't even know how old they were. Best thing to do? Try to hatch them of course. I added them to my Christmas HAL eggs, and all 14 hatched! They out hatched my cleaner eggs.

So anyways, I set 12 duck eggs two days ago. It will be a couple days late but I'm still excited to be in the V-Day hatch. Yeah yeah yeah!:D

The apple yard ducks are very appealing to me.  Once I get all settled down on what breeds I want for chickens and turkeys, I'll be starting in with choosing the duck breeds.  So far khaki ducks are out.  Great layers but just like the production chickens, they are not my favorites.  For now the possible breeds on the duck list is mallards, snow mallards, silver apple yards, runners, and maybe an Aflac duck for meat.

Turns out her Apple yards weren't laying so I guess I will be hatching Golden cascade and Dutch hook bills. I don't even know what they are but I'll let you know if I like them.

woot! My broody is snuggled in tight with hers already!

Aweosme...i wanna use a broody to...but i just cant:hit
she was just a complete accidental broody. I hurt my foot, eggs piled up because my fiance will feed and water but egg colecting is asking too much. A large quantity of eggs for a bantam to sit on later and she was off and on the nest all day today and tonight she started sitting tight. Can't wait for ohiki babies in 21 days!

X2!! Never seen that breed kinda chicks!

Candle them and place the air cell up.

If you look closely, you can usually see the difference without candling. I've always been 100% right, and I'm at least 50% sure of that!
Thank you, I did candle them only to find a couple of the eggs with obvious small ends had what appeared to be air cells in the small end of the egg. Go figure, I obviously don't know what I'm looking at
