Valentine's hatch-a-long

On the up side, had four Cream Legbars hatch on Valentine's day - so cute!

(yes, I know I say "Leghorn" - still getting my breeds right - meant "Legbar"

On the down side, had to experience culling my first chicks - one hatched with intestine wrapped around its leg, and one with a post-hatch prolapse of intestines through the navel - traumatizing for me but necessary. My husband couldn't do the culling and had tears in his eyes. I just cried inside a little.

We are neighbors. I live in Corbett...22 miles east of Portland...............
It was for sure a sad but loving act about your chicks................
I just hate wen I have to do that............but it is part of this..........
Sometimes it is the only option.

looks like my hatch is done. 7 chicks in all out of 22 eggs. Not great, but better than I did last year. I'll post a pic once they clean up a bit.

I want to do quail one day to boost the population in out area. You hardly ever see them anymore.
