valley quail or gambel?

They are California Valley Quails. I actually hatch and raise Blue Scale, Gambles, And California Valley Quail!

California Valley Hens have a fish scale type feather pattern on their chest whereas the Gambels chest is more of an offwhite/tan plain looking. With my experience, Valleys are by far the more popular breed over the Gambels because they have a very distinctive prettier chest (Males and females) than Gambels. Based on your pictures, I don't see scale colored feathers on the chest of your hens so I am going to say they are Gambel hens. Google the two hen breeds and you will see what I'm talking about.

I also noticed in your picture that you have pellet size feed for your birds. May I recommend you grind them up to either a crumble or powder size. Pellet size feed is to big for quail.
