Wow those black naked-necks look just like little vultures!

Very nice mixes! it's amazing that there is so much variation there.
I esp like the black naked-neck that lays green eggs--lol, what more could you ask for?!

Hi! Thanks!
I think I'm understanding it a little better. I just was noticing my 'pure-breed' blue Jersey Giant pullets still have small dark-ish combs still (no new pics, but that is a same age JG girl across the fence in this pic).
The black JG hens I have here, I got as 'grown birds' and already had big red combs and wattles.
So I can expect the girls with tiny 'whisps-of-combs' to get much larger as they mature? Phooey!

The JG must have something in them that complements / accentuates the 'dark-skin' gene.

It's a sad, sad thing...
I just realized I have 'Jack-Pot', a good-sized black dark-skinned frizzled Naked Neck guy [{(Ameraucana x (Naked Neck x Silkie)} X {(Naked Neck x Silkie) x (Frizz Cochin x Silkie)}](his siblings lay green eggs) I can put with the black green-egg laying NN.
'Treasure', a splash frizz NN from the same cross is ready to be paired with the clean- face blue blue-egger girls.

OH! Help!
I'm visioning Giant blue/black dark-skinned Naked Neck frizzled green-eggers.
...and that makes me smile!

Do it, do it!

(and then show pics!)

The dark faces/comb on your giants may be gypsy face Dark face but body skin is normal. It's been known to help with dark skin expression.

To tell if a non-naked neck has only the gypsy face or also has dark skin is to look under their wings and also around the vents.

Also some feather colors help with expression of gypsy and black skin, black being one.. blue is simply a black chicken with the blue gene..

Hey you can make lots of money off those birds if you wish! I don't know about your neck of the woods, but around here you can get good money for big meaty fibromelanotic (black skin) birds. People from certain cultures like those birds especially. The black meat is actually higher in certain chemicals that are good for you.

Good luck!

Hi! I will! I will! Thanks Kev!!
wclawrence, I'd read somewhere there was a market for dark-skin/fleshed birds
(nobody *I* know would want them, they'd think they were diseased)). I wasn't *headed* toward that, but it is nice to know there might be that option out there.

Those are some gorgeous hens! That last roo though looks like he is wearing a toupee! I like the looks of the dark skin with NNs but for some reason the red skin creeps me out...
