Treats are normally kale and boss and bread but theeat meal worm now and then oyster shells once a week oregano in water but hadto put them on a small diet of peas green beans and carrots but they get kale to.

16% layer feed free choice I do have 3 almost 5 year old hens I would have 4 but the stress from a northern fowl mite infestation took Its toll on her

With 16% layer feed, you should really limit their treats. While kale, boss and other veggies make fine treats - anything you give them besides their balanced poultry feed dilutes the protein percentage and nutrition they get.

Oyster shell should be provided free choice as well. Just put it in a small dish inside the run, they will take what they need.

I'm sorry to hear you lost one from mites. Do you have those under control now?

At thetime of passing they were mite free and honestly they don't have any mites anymore yay well thecan't free range because of predators

Her name is phinoex she is one and half years old she also Brahma. Both of them almost died as chicks from chemical change v in parathyroid. Phinoex has a shivering issue along with not feeling thecorrect temp in a sense alsosounds like a duck lotcus has a eye problem because of the chemical change

If you ever get concerned about Vaseline you can always chapstik combs as well. My rooster gets that instead, the Vaseline gets on his cheek puffs somehow but chapstick does not...plus it makes him smell like cherries which is really nice.

Ladies and gentlemen its freezing here

Where is here? It never got above 14F today. Wind came up about dusk. Pretty cold then. Supposed to be -20F tonight with wind chill even lower. Funny thing is we used to have -40 when I was a kid. In the '60's. Yes I grew up in the "60's and I remember it. But wind chill was never mentioned. So I don't put a whole lot of stock in it. Coop is closed and my four birds will do ok. I had them out a few weeks ago at -9F eating breakfast. They ate fast that morning. They all went to bed tonight with full crops. That will keep them warm too.
