Whole Foods Market has a commercial on the radio advertising for chicken breast from chickens on a strict vegetarian diet. Thoughts? Chickens are carnivorous right?
When I heard it on the radio at work it stood out and struck me as odd.

They are omnivores. If they can catch it, they will eat it. Mine eat a lot of shrews here. Just one big swallow for the large fowl hens

Chickens are omnivores (as are quite a lot of other animals) but a "vegetarian diet" is pretty much the new standard for factory farmed meat and eggs. I don't know if it's cheaper or people think it's healthier or some combination of the two.

Both.... it is cheaper so they've convinced consumers it's healthier.....mad cow didn't help as that gave the push to take animal protein out of feeds

Yes chickens are omnivorous, anyone that actually has them (chickens) knows this. Marketing ploy for those who don't want to know chickens also like meat  Some egg companies also use this, 'strict vegetarian diet' makes a certain group of our public 'feel better' about eating egg protein. Those chickens get their protein through plant products, not very realistic and actually unnatural but to each his own.
I prefer to eat our own eggs and chicken that eat everything :thumbsup
