Thanks for those links. However, studying broilers versus the flocks that most of these forum members seems to be comparing apples to oranges. Hard to do a long-term effect study with broilers, you know?

All of the trials and references I provided relate to Low Protein diets, much lower than the typical feeds we purchase for our flocks. However they do illustrate that supplementation of synthetic amino acids is feasible and economically viable to overcome deficiencies found in some feed ingredients. Proving that the bird doesn't care where the protein comes from, just that they want the proper amounts of each amino acid.

Virtually every feed mill in the USA no longer uses any Ruminant Meat and Bone Meal. The mills I work with use either Pork or Poultry products if they choose to use Meat and Bone Meal. There is just too much risk of violating the Specific Risk Material rules by having ruminant products in a feed mill.
