Vegetarians ( and Vegans ) Thread!!!

Just throwing in that vegetarian cultures have been around for a very long time. One of my favorite groups are the Bishnoi. If you want hardcore vegetarians, look no farther. The result of their lifestyle is that very endagered animals can be found strolling around them.

Quorn is yummy. I love the 'tenders' (plain "chicken" chunks). No soy and tastes just dry white meat chicken. The turkey is good also. The burgers are ok, but not as good as the chicken subs. Not suitable for vegans, contains egg whites.

Tis true! But the chicken chunks look so much like real chicken that peeps at work have commented "hey, I thought you were a vegetarian!!" .. my response.. "Oh, I am, this is just fungus shaped to look like chicken".. Hee hee. Fun to scare the coworkers.

It's like a mushroom (but it isn't). People eat mushrooms all the time.

Quorn was developed overseas as an alternative protein source and it really is pretty good. Plus it's soy free, which is good if you are trying for a variation from all that soy..

"By 2005 Quorn enjoyed around 60% of the meat-replacement food market in the UK, with annual sales of around £95 million."

Another alternative would be seitan, which is good if made properly. I haven't managed to make anything but 'marginally edible' but working on it.

I love Quorn. Awhile back they also had Quorn "hotdogs", they were the closet thing to a real hotdog, I don't think they make them anymore as I can't find them anywhere.
